About the Role
Barrick is seeking an Exploration District Geologist to lead a team in identifying, assessing, and exploring new targets within an assigned district. This role involves executing exploration programs in compliance with safety, environmental, community relations, and governance standards, ensuring a healthy exploration portfolio.
Responsibilities
- Lead, train, coach, and mentor geologists, promoting a collaborative, high-performance team culture.
- Identify and advance new exploration targets aligned with district and company strategy.
- Design, propose, and execute exploration programs across all stages of the exploration pipeline.
- Develop and apply strong geological and exploration models to guide target generation and drill planning.
- Lead and oversee field exploration activities, ensuring high-quality geological data collection and management.
- Manage exploration programs to meet technical objectives, schedules, and approved budgets.
- Apply economic and business criteria to evaluate and prioritize exploration opportunities.
- Prepare clear, high-quality technical reports and ensure delivery of geological data to company standards.
- Provide technical leadership to define areas of interest and drilling targets.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and external contractors to ensure timely project execution.
- Participate in annual exploration budget planning and manage project financial performance.
- Communicate project objectives, progress, and impacts to internal stakeholders.
- Ensure all required permits and approvals are obtained and maintained.
- Promote and enforce health, safety, environmental, and risk-prevention standards.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, Code of Conduct, and community relations standards.
- Partner with Human Resources on talent management, including recruitment, performance management, and development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral exploration, including field-based project leadership preferred.
- Proven experience designing and executing exploration programs from early stage through advanced exploration required.
- Strong geological modeling, target generation, and drill planning skills required.
- Demonstrated ability to manage exploration budgets and control costs required.
- Master’s degree in Geology or a related discipline preferred.
- Experience working at district or regional scale exploration programs preferred.
- Familiarity with modern exploration technologies, data systems, and geoinformatics standards preferred.
- Prior experience in a mining company or large-scale exploration organization preferred.
- Experience leading, training, and mentoring geologists and technical teams preferred.
- Strong technical reporting, data management, and communication skills required.
- Solid understanding of health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements in exploration required.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and internal stakeholders required.
