About the Role
The i Paper is seeking a Senior Social Editor with extensive experience in digital journalism distribution across social media. This role involves understanding social platforms, repurposing journalism into engaging content, and using data analytics to drive strategy. The position supports the newsroom's wider digital publishing strategy and community building efforts.
Responsibilities
- Distribute content across social media in an impactful, socially native style and tone.
- Expand community engagement strategies to widen brand reach off-platform.
- Develop an understanding of social platforms' role in digital subscriber acquisition and retention.
- Support the development of paid social strategies to reach new audiences.
- Utilize social platform data and onsite analytics to inform decisions and understand audience preferences.
- Innovate new formats and posts to maximize reach, engagement, and growth across social accounts.
- Maintain high standards for off-platform visual storytelling.
- Write strong headlines for social, homepage, and SEO as needed.
- Collaborate with the wider audience team on SEO, newsletters, and homepage content.
- Pitch social-first ideas and develop content plans for key news events.
- Adhere to media law and the Editors’ Code of Practice.
- Commit to The i Paper's editorial standards of impartial and incisive coverage.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of newsroom experience.
- Proven ability to deliver under pressing deadlines.
- Ability to ideate quickly in the face of breaking news.
- Excellent understanding of existing and emerging social media platforms and their differing requirements.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Google Analytics.
- Ability to present insights to senior leaders.
- Experience launching community engagement projects on social platforms.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to pitch ideas effectively.
- An experimental, creative approach to problem-solving.
- Strong news sense.
- A creative and visual approach to storytelling.
- A strong eye for social design and graphics.
- Appreciation for i’s audience and tone, and how to write stories that will appeal to readers.
