About the Role
Support the mission of People’s Community Clinic by providing dental care and support to patients through the dental program in a manner consistent with clinic values and standards. Work with other employees to achieve high standards of operational efficiency and service effectiveness. This position works as a member of a care team to coordinate patient care and support patients and families in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct dental care for patients according to established standards of care.
- Complete comprehensive full mouth exams, diagnose dental conditions, and assess treatment planning options.
- Take health histories and record chart data and service data.
- Counsel patients about course of treatment, prescribed medications, general oral health and wellness, and management of diagnosed conditions.
- Perform daily procedures including oral exams, hygiene checks, simple extractions, restorative treatment and sealants.
- Provide medically necessary follow-up on diagnosis, diagnostic evaluation, or treatment required for the patient’s care.
- Create an environment of respect and compassion for patients and staff.
- Support a friendly and positive work environment.
- Maintain an awareness of the budget and work in conjunction with the operations team to attain financial objectives.
- Maintain standards of proficiency, service quality, efficiency, and effectiveness.
- Provide direct care in an efficient and timely manner.
- Provide direct care services as scheduled during the week.
- Meet standards for quality of care and number of patients seen as set by management.
- Maintain professional licensing and certifications.
- Maintain practice liability insurance coverage.
- Participate in quality improvement/quality assurance activities, including chart audits.
- Identify opportunities to improve work flow, work processes, and patient care.
- Work cooperatively to implement quality improvements.
- Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and Infection control guidelines.
- Participate in program planning, development, evaluation, and implementation activities.
- Update protocols and guidelines when requested.
- Review patient education materials for accuracy, utility, and appropriateness.
- Participate in meetings, task groups, and activities designed to promote communications, identify and resolve problems, devise work plans, and establish program or departmental objectives.
Requirements
- Minimum three years’ experience as a dentist, which may include time in a post-graduate training program.
- Hold and maintain a current license to practice dentistry in the State of Texas.
- Hold current DPS and DEA registrations.
- Hold current CPR certification.
Skills
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
- Knowledge of and experience performing dental services including the use of dental equipment.
- Knowledge of best practices related to oral hygiene and health care.
- Knowledge of and experience diagnosing dental disease and conditions and documentation of examination findings and courses of treatment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Problem identification and resolution skills.
- Time management skills.
- Ability to maintain effective and consistently cordial working relationships with physicians and other employees.
- Flexible and adaptable in a high change environment.
- Ability to work independently.
