About the Role

ProPublica seeks a versatile communications associate to amplify the reach and impact of its investigative journalism by distributing content to targeted local audiences and building relationships with media outlets.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute PR campaigns for major investigations.
  • Pitch journalists and their reporting to various media channels.
  • Strengthen and grow relationships with members of the press.
  • Respond to media requests and schedule interviews.
  • Prepare staff for media interviews and develop talking points.
  • Draft and disseminate press releases.
  • Ensure compliance with ProPublica's republishing guidelines.
  • Facilitate requests to republish articles.
  • Collaborate with communications team members on reader feedback.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations.
  • Ideally, some experience working for a news organization.
  • Superb written and verbal communication skills.
  • Impeccable news judgment and experience vetting information.
  • Experience with content management systems, media reporting tools (Meltwater, Cision, Muck Rack), and databases (Airtable).
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work on deadlines for multiple projects and pivot quickly.
  • Experience as a strong team player.
  • Desire to collaborate with others.
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
