About the Role
ProPublica seeks a versatile communications associate to amplify the reach and impact of its investigative journalism by distributing content to targeted local audiences and building relationships with media outlets.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute PR campaigns for major investigations.
- Pitch journalists and their reporting to various media channels.
- Strengthen and grow relationships with members of the press.
- Respond to media requests and schedule interviews.
- Prepare staff for media interviews and develop talking points.
- Draft and disseminate press releases.
- Ensure compliance with ProPublica's republishing guidelines.
- Facilitate requests to republish articles.
- Collaborate with communications team members on reader feedback.
Requirements
- Minimum three years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations.
- Ideally, some experience working for a news organization.
- Superb written and verbal communication skills.
- Impeccable news judgment and experience vetting information.
- Experience with content management systems, media reporting tools (Meltwater, Cision, Muck Rack), and databases (Airtable).
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work on deadlines for multiple projects and pivot quickly.
- Experience as a strong team player.
- Desire to collaborate with others.
- Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
