About the Role
As Humana transforms into an AI-first enterprise, this Principal Product Manager role will define strategy and drive delivery across a portfolio of AI products, setting the standard for AI development and personally engaging in the full lifecycle from problem identification to delivery.
Responsibilities
- Define the multi-year vision and strategy for a portfolio of AI products and capabilities.
- Prioritize across competing product areas and adapt the portfolio as the model landscape and business change.
- Set the north-star and long-term roadmap, reasoning from first principles for undefined problems.
- Partner with business-unit and enterprise leaders to map operations and turn ambiguous problems into AI use cases with clear business cases.
- Build working prototypes and demos with agentic coding tools to prove feasibility and value.
- Stay close enough to the technology to make credible technical calls.
- Turn validated use cases into buildable requirements, including user stories, acceptance criteria, edge cases, and success metrics.
- Shape the end-to-end user experience with design, focusing on usability for adoption.
- Drive the build from prototype to production, making scope and tradeoff calls, unblocking teams, and maintaining momentum.
- Define how quality is measured, building golden sets, error budgets, and eval frameworks.
- Run offline and production evals, choose the right metrics, and apply LLM-as-judge where validated.
- Turn results into launch decisions and leadership readouts.
- Partner with engineering on high-level architecture and feasibility across the portfolio.
- Own the context engineering and skill-creation components of the AI harness and set reusable patterns.
- Lead engineers, data scientists, designers, product managers, and business partners without direct authority.
- Influence VP-level organizations through written narratives, business cases, and executive forums.
- Author playbooks, skills, and solution patterns for building AI at Humana.
- Move solutions through Humana's enterprise AI governance, owning product documentation, scorecards, and stage-gate reviews.
- Help shape AI governance standards as the portfolio grows.
- Raise the bar for the team by mentoring senior and lead product managers, contributing to hiring and promotion assessments.
- Set the craft standard for building with AI across the organization.
- Communicate strategy, roadmap, requirements, ROI, and eval results clearly to executive, business, and technical audiences.
- Represent Humana's AI product work externally with partners, vendors, and the broader community.
- Track advances in models, agents, evals, and emerging techniques, forming a defensible point of view and applying them across the portfolio.
Requirements
- 10+ years of product or related experience, with AI/ML or GenAI products shipped to production.
- Candidates with fewer years but a strong engineering background and real fluency in AI will be considered.
- A track record of setting strategy and driving delivery across multiple products or a major domain.
- Experience leading initiatives with org-wide, executive-level visibility.
- Regularly use AI tools, prototype own ideas, and can specify changes to model behavior and rationale.
- Understand trade-offs: context windows, latency, cost, hallucination, RAG vs. fine-tuning.
- Built evals (golden sets, ground truth, offline and live evals) and used precision- and recall-based metrics for product decisions.
- Set eval standards adopted by other teams.
- Build infrastructure that prevents entire classes of problems and make it reusable across the organization.
- Move fluently between business and technical concepts.
- Track record of business cases, ROI models, and roadmaps that inform executive-level investment decisions.
- Deep working understanding of modern AI/ML and GenAI (LLMs, agents, RAG, prompt/harness engineering, and Evals) and their application to enterprise problems.
- Work from first principles, prioritize well, and make good calls quickly with incomplete information.
- 12+ years of product experience, or equivalent depth of AI-native building, in a large enterprise environment (preferred).
- Experience in healthcare, insurance, or another regulated industry (preferred).
- A well-supported, publicly demonstrated point of view on agentic AI, evals, and AI-native product development (preferred).
- Hands-on experience with agent frameworks, GraphRAG/knowledge graphs, and reusable skills/plugins (preferred).
- Experience defining a new AI product category or standing up cross-organization AI standards and playbooks (preferred).
- Familiarity with responsible AI, bias mitigation, and compliance with sensitive data (preferred).
- A degree in computer science or engineering, or an equivalent combination of experience (preferred).
