About the Role
Austin Commercial is seeking a Senior Superintendent for its Aviation Division in San Francisco. This role is crucial for a leading construction firm that sets industry standards and is 100% employee-owned, ensuring a vested interest in success and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Leads and oversees day-to-day field construction activities on assigned jobsites.
- Organizes and manages large project staff, dividing duties between multiple employee-owners.
- Ensures overall safety at a jobsite, implementing safety plans and procedures.
- Reviews record documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schedules to determine project scope, materials, manpower, and equipment needs.
- Plans jobsite physical layout with the project manager for effective space utilization and initiates startup activities.
- Designates areas for cranes, hoists, material storage, and parking.
- Directs field engineers in jobsite survey and layout, ensuring accuracy of dimensional control lines and elevations.
- Plans daily and weekly activities for each craft, providing detailed technical instructions and resolving plan ambiguities.
- Establishes procedures for ordering self-performed building materials, supplies, and tools with the project manager.
- Inspects all field construction work, ensuring high-quality workmanship and promptly addressing deficiencies.
- Provides technical guidance and assistance in resolving construction problems, investigating alternative methods for efficiency.
- Assists the project manager in evaluating schedule and cost impacts.
- Assists the project manager in developing manpower projection charts and monitors labor costs for accuracy and budget conformance.
- Assists the project manager in developing equipment projection charts and monitors equipment use, maintenance, and cost.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and codes, including company policies.
- Manages scheduling of all governmental inspections required for a certificate of occupancy.
- Assumes responsibility for employee health and safety, including first aid, emergency treatment, and hazard correction.
- Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with owners, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Fosters and promotes the training and development of subordinates through various opportunities.
- Assumes a leadership role in the career planning and development of project staff.
- Performs tasks associated with project completion, including close-out punch lists and as-built documents.
- Maintains detailed and accurate daily reports of all field construction activities.
- Administers the company's Safety & Health Manual.
Requirements
- B.S. in construction management, construction science, engineering, or relevant discipline preferred, or equivalent combination of education (High School diploma) and experience.
- Successful completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Industry Outreach Training required (may obtain within first year of employment).
- 10+ years of aviation construction field experience, including direct supervisory experience, leading large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proven track record in terminal and concourse development, ensuring optimal passenger flow and efficiency.
- In-depth knowledge of processor (aka headhouse) structures for airport operations.
- Experience with Consolidated Rental Car Centers (ConRAC), integrating transportation and rental facilities.
- Expertise in landside and airside construction, balancing regulatory compliance and operational impact.
- Exceptional written, verbal and presentation communication skills.
- Proficient with reading plans and specs.
- Ability to build and manage multiple high performing teams.
- Willingness to travel or relocate for key project assignments.
