About the Role
The Planning Manager will lead day-to-day planning operations, act as a trusted advisor to clients, and mentor junior team members. This role offers an opportunity to own client briefs, collaborate with specialist teams, and accelerate career growth within a global media agency.
Responsibilities
- Develop an in-depth understanding of media channels and their strategic application.
- Utilize and train others on Wavemaker and industry media planning tools.
- Understand industry best practices, planning theory, DE+I planning, and carbon-conscious media.
- Develop knowledge of Wavemaker Purchase Journey thinking and Provocative Planning Philosophy.
- Take ownership of campaign activity, including briefing, response collation, and client deliverables.
- Ensure accuracy across all workstreams.
- Collaborate with planning and activation teams for efficient account management.
- Engage specialist teams for briefs and client questions.
- Manage financial processes, including PO trackers, bookings, reconciliations, and billing queries.
- Serve as a main day-to-day contact for junior clients, understanding their business.
- Support and mentor Planning Executives, guiding their career development.
- Develop a proactive problem-solving mindset and escalate issues as needed.
Requirements
- Solid knowledge of the media landscape, including future trends, best practices, and challenges.
- Proficiency in using or briefing out media planning tools and platforms.
- Breadth and depth of industry understanding.
- Ability to confidently present data and develop narratives from various sources.
- Capability to answer client questions and liaise with internal teams.
- Ability to apply focused questioning and systematic research to understand problems.
- Translate business problems into practical solutions.
- Use critical questioning and maintain a broad perspective when analyzing information.
- Generate appropriate solutions informed by previous experience.
- Support others in problem-solving.
- Provide communication support for troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of agency and client organizational structures, stakeholders, and goals.
- Ability to cultivate and grow relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
- Build working knowledge of market trends affecting the client and agency.
- Respond to stakeholder requests accurately, timely, and professionally.
- Lead dialogues between internal and external partners.
- Use simple, clear language, and technical language when required.
- Employ active listening and choose appropriate communication channels.
- Break down complex technical information into understandable language.
- Design differentiated communications for various audiences.
- Confidently attend and present at client and agency meetings.
- Manage and take ownership of projects/tasks accurately and thoroughly.
- Teach others the importance of accuracy and thoroughness.
- Manage campaigns from start to completion, maintaining accurate pipelines and trackers.
- Deliver accurate reports with value-added insights.
- Accountable for ongoing management of campaign budgets and financial reconciliations.
- Use knowledge of the media ecosystem, industry trends, and client business pressures to build persuasive stories.
- Apply big-picture thinking and leverage understanding of the organization and industry trends.
- Generate or facilitate new ideas, methods, innovations, or creative media solutions.
- Engage in new projects to solve identified barriers or opportunities.
- Identify relevant partners and specialists to bring ideas to life.
- Use wider industry knowledge to generate solutions.
- Find creative solutions for client business problems using media.
- Apply knowledge of client, audience, channel, market, and category to deliver multi-media plans.
- Translate learnings and trends to create effective marketing communication strategies.
- Apply purchase journey thinking and visualize cohesive media plans.
- Identify and recommend strategic budget shifts.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
