About the Role

This position tests, interprets, and records data to ensure the production of safe products that meet quality standards. The role involves independent work, training junior technicians, developing SOPs, and monitoring trends to initiate corrective actions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lab cleanliness and sterility.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Perform aseptic sampling of finished products for microbiological analysis.
  • Log all samples tested.
  • Conduct microbiological or chemical analysis.
  • Utilize AOAC testing methods.
  • Test environmental samples from food contact surfaces.
  • Follow sampling schedules for raw materials and water.
  • Perform environmental sampling for TPC, coliform, Yeast/Molds.
  • Conduct Listeria environmental sampling.
  • Document, interpret, and report test results to managers.
  • Collaborate with departmental managers and sanitation supervisors on corrective actions.
  • Prepare samples for third-party lab analysis.
  • Prepare Certificates of Analysis (COA) per customer needs.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs.
  • Manage lab supply inventory and reorder as needed.
  • Work independently with minimal oversight on daily lab operations.
  • Train and onboard entry-level lab technicians on procedures and protocols.
  • Write, revise, and maintain SOPs for laboratory testing and sampling.
  • Coach QA technicians on proper micro sampling techniques.
  • Compile and analyze trending reports on lab and environmental data.
  • Identify deviations from standards and initiate corrective actions.
  • Assist with QA duties during staff shortages.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience, preferably in quality.
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in a food testing/food safety laboratory.
  • Good understanding of GMPs, HACCP, and SQF guidelines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others and work collaboratively in a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong training and coaching skills, with experience mentoring entry-level technicians.
  • Ability to write, review, and maintain SOPs and lab documentation.
  • Ability to compile and analyze trending data, identify deviations, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Strong problem analysis skills, teamwork, and creativity.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.
