About the Role
Legend London is seeking a Financial Controller to build a scalable finance function supporting international growth. This role requires a hands-on finance leader with strong technical accounting, commercial thinking, and systems knowledge, ideal for someone with experience in fast-growing eCommerce, retail, or consumer businesses within entrepreneurial environments.
Responsibilities
- Own financial reporting, commercial strategy, controls, multi-entity consolidations, and compliance.
- Partner with senior leadership to drive commercial performance, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen financial controls.
- Deliver meaningful commercial insight and introduce scalable systems and processes.
- Lead the adoption of ERP, AI, and automation across finance.
- Lead the migration from Xero to a fully integrated ERP platform.
- Define finance system requirements alongside key stakeholders.
- Drive automation, standardisation, and AI adoption across the finance function.
- Reduce manual processes and improve the accuracy and efficiency of reporting.
- Introduce scalable systems capable of supporting continued international growth.
- Own the monthly close process across all entities.
- Produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts.
- Deliver board reporting, KPI dashboards, and meaningful commercial commentary.
- Continually improve the monthly reporting pack using Xero and Fathom.
- Ensure all balance sheet accounts are fully reconciled and appropriately supported.
- Develop and maintain a robust financial control environment.
- Lead annual audit preparation and manage external auditor relationships.
- Maintain accounting policies and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
- Lead monthly consolidation across the UK, UAE, Netherlands, and US businesses.
- Manage intercompany accounting, reconciliations, and eliminations.
- Ensure accurate foreign currency accounting and multi-currency reporting.
- Coordinate the preparation of statutory accounts.
- Manage relationships with international tax advisers.
- Ensure VAT, corporation tax, and other statutory filings are completed accurately and on time across all jurisdictions.
- Analyse business performance, profitability, and margins.
- Provide meaningful commentary and actionable commercial insights alongside monthly results.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
- Build financial models and scenario analysis for strategic initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability and cash generation.
- Partner with operational leaders to support commercial decision-making.
- Challenge spending and identify cost-saving opportunities across the business.
- Monitor and optimise cash flow and working capital performance.
- Own cash forecasting and liquidity planning.
- Oversee inventory accounting and stock reconciliations.
- Support credit control and supplier payment processes.
- Improve visibility across cash requirements and future investment decisions.
- Build, develop, and lead a scalable finance function.
- Recruit and develop additional team members as the business grows.
- Manage and coach the overseas bookkeeper.
- Create clear ownership and accountability across the team.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.
Requirements
- ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified.
- 5+ years of post-qualified experience as a Financial Controller or in a similar senior finance role.
- Experience within eCommerce, retail, consumer goods, FMCG, or another fast-growing, multi-entity business.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge.
- Experience preparing consolidated management accounts across international, multi-currency group structures.
- Proven experience improving financial reporting, controls, and processes.
- Experience managing audits, statutory reporting, and tax compliance.
- Strong commercial acumen and business-partnering skills.
- Confidence influencing both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience analysing large data sets.
- Experience managing and developing finance team members.
