About the Role

The Long Island Taste NY Market Sales Ambassador supports the Taste NY Market at the Long Island Welcome Center, assisting customers, managing self-checkout, and maintaining a clean environment. The role involves promoting local agriculture and foods, engaging customers, and providing consistent quality in food and beverage service.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in a food service setting.
  • Assist customers with the self-checkout system.
  • Maintain clean and organized work stations.
  • Ensure a clean guest area.
  • Provide quality beverages and food products consistently.
  • Adhere to all recipe and presentation standards.
  • Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines for all products.
  • Inspect the store for cleanliness and organization.
  • Refill supplies as needed.
  • Discuss Long Island agriculture and local foods with customers.
  • Utilize provided information to engage customers about local agriculture products.
  • Communicate effectively with managers and co-workers.
  • Follow and create coffee recipes.
  • Recommend daily coffee from the menu.
  • Greet, assist, and serve the needs of store customers.
  • Replenish store supplies and inventory.
  • Track product inventory.
  • Receive and log scheduled deliveries.
  • Assist with the promotion of agri-tourism on Long Island.
  • Promote local farms, produce, food, and products to customers.
  • Monitor product expiration dates and observe First-In, First-Out practices.
  • Create attention-grabbing displays.
  • Assist in managing and displaying products.
  • Perform store inspections, organization, and restocking.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean facility.
  • Work with supervisors to learn about products being sold.
  • Maintain equipment, troubleshoot if necessary, and alert the manager.
  • Develop and pursue a professional development plan.
  • Collaborate in activities supporting Cornell Cooperative Extension.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Association in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Follow applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and Association health and safety policies.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.
  • Experience working in customer service and retail environments.
  • Ability to complete basic math in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work with the public in a food service setting.
  • Attention to product rotation detail.
  • Knowledge of basic marketing strategies, advertising, and distribution of products.
  • Experience in storing (inventory), and marketing retail food products.
  • Experience in display, merchandising, and sales and promotion.
  • Ability to operate or learn to operate a cash register.
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to lift 20-50 pounds.
