About the Role

Advanced Energy United is seeking a strategic and experienced candidate to lead legislative and political engagement in New York. This role involves building relationships with decision-makers, developing and executing strategy, and collaborating with internal teams to expand markets for the advanced energy industry. The position will focus on educating stakeholders about advanced energy technologies and facilitating member engagement in policy advocacy, with potential focus areas including energy affordability, clean energy infrastructure, grid resilience, transportation and building electrification, and regional wholesale markets. The role reports to the Northeast Managing Director and assists in developing regional strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies to accelerate New York’s clean energy transition in the electric and transportation sectors.
  • Work with member companies to develop policy positions and reach consensus on key issues.
  • Manage lobbyist and consultant relationships and their engagement in legislative matters.
  • Organize member opportunities for direct decision-maker engagement, including lobby days and legislator education.
  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with coalition partners, allies, and key legislative and administrative staff.
  • Create reports, presentations, fact sheets, and other materials for education and advocacy efforts.
  • Work with the communications team to identify opportunities for earned media coverage.
  • Travel up to 30% for advocacy days, meetings, and communications outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, economics, engineering or arts and sciences preferred, or comparable experience.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant area is a plus.
  • 7 – 15 years of professional experience in legislative policy development, campaign work, or organizing in the energy or transportation sector.
  • Experience working with business leaders is a plus.
  • Interest in energy and transportation issues and an understanding of the importance of policy advocacy.
  • Entrepreneurial approach, flexible attitude, and ability to operate independently.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to draft clear, comprehensive, and persuasive written documents.
  • Intellectual curiosity, inquisitive nature, and excellent listening and problem-solving skills.
  • Performance-oriented individual with a strong work ethic, demonstrated initiative, and commitment to achieving goals.
  • Ability to engage members, customers, and funders, and sell Advanced Energy United and its value proposition.
  • Must have a sense of humor and recognize there is always more to learn.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Residence in the U.S. required.
