About the Role

Marea Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotechnology company seeking to develop first-in-class therapies for cardioendocrine diseases. This role is hands-on and requires collaboration with team members to understand challenges and drive results.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
• Assist with the review of journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by the AP accountant.
• Track and accrue research and development contracts and clinical trials through close collaboration with internal business owners and external vendors.
• Assist with preparing financial statements, supporting schedules, and draft footnote disclosures.
• Compile audit support and respond to requests from external auditors during quarterly reviews and the annual audit.
• Research technical accounting topics and prepare technical accounting memos, collaborating with external firms as needed for complex transactions.
• Partner with all business functions to gather information for accurate accounting of business activities.
• Support process and systems improvement initiatives, such as ERP optimization and close automation.
• Support internal financial reporting, including variance analysis and periodic reporting schedules.
• Support registration statement filing, including interim review procedures and drafting/tie-out of registration statements.
• Assist in gathering financial data during the due diligence process.
• Support implementation of SOX 404, including control design and process documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
• CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus, not required.
• 3-5 years of accounting experience.
• Ideally, at least 3 years of public accounting (Big 4 or national firm) and/or public company experience in biotech/pharma or life sciences.
• Experience with public-company reporting and SOX compliance is a plus.
• Solid knowledge of US GAAP, COSO framework, and IT General Controls (ITGCs).
• Strong Excel skills and high attention to detail.
• Reliable, organized, motivated self-starter with the ability to execute tasks independently and meet deadlines in a highly dynamic environment.
• Clear communicator, comfortable receiving direction and feedback from senior accounting and finance leaders.
