Responsibilities

  • Contacts vendors for services and ensures payments for service restoration or continuation.
  • Monitors program efficacy and trends, completing seasonal, quarterly, and yearly reports.
  • Participates in task forces, strategic planning, mentoring, teaching classes, and conducting outreach.
  • Reviews cases for correctness, identifies significant errors or problems, and determines their source.
  • Provides statistical data and information to support budget requests.
  • Interviews clients with questionable statements to determine program eligibility.
  • Documents gathered data and compares findings with established program eligibility guidelines.
  • Prepares quality control reports and makes recommendations to the supervisor.
  • Explains programs, applicant/recipient rights and responsibilities, and conducts follow-up.
  • Manages a caseload of public assistance clients with complex issues.
  • Serves as a resource to staff and the public regarding public assistance programs and eligibility.
  • Answers questions related to policies and procedures.
  • Maintains records, prepares reports, and submits summaries and information as required.

Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of applicable laws, codes, policies, and procedures related to public assistance programs.
  • Basic knowledge of human behavior.
  • Sufficient knowledge of financial assistance programs to determine benefits eligibility.
  • Knowledge of human services programs and their interrelation.
  • Knowledge of the strategic planning process.
  • Proficiency in mathematics for calculations.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques including data collection, interrogation, and investigation.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and associated office and agency software.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex cases.
  • Ability to read and interpret public policies and regulations to make independent decisions.
  • Ability to train staff.
  • Ability to speak in public and promote agency programs.
  • Ability to develop brochures and pamphlets and use audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to share learned information with co-workers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically orally and in writing with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Ability to interview, gather information, re-evaluate client situations, and make referrals.
  • Ability to determine a client’s ownership share in multi-ownership situations.
  • Ability to assess client needs through collection and analysis of employment history and personal, family, and cultural information.
  • Ability to use various types of automated technology for case records and data manipulation.
  • Ability to maintain professional ethics related to confidentiality.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, tact, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to identify customer needs and explore options within available community resources.
