About the Role

The Group Underwriting Best Practices & Training Specialist provides training and leadership to Group Underwriting staff, acting as a key resource for their development. This role supports the Management team in performance development and oversees the development, maintenance, and communication of underwriting guidelines, procedures, reporting, training programs, and Quality Assurance programs. The specialist must stay current on industry trends and changes to ensure alignment with statutory requirements and best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Providing training to all new and existing Underwriting staff.
  • Coordinating and facilitating training sessions, case studies, and presentations to the Underwriting team, other Group Benefits departments, and Sales teams.
  • Developing structured training programs that promote self-serve capabilities and enhance/modify existing programs to reflect area needs, procedures, and learning styles.
  • Developing, facilitating, and overseeing a structured Quality Assurance program.
  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of underwriting guidelines, procedures, agreements, and process manuals to ensure they are current, competitive, and comply with corporate policies.
  • Monitoring, communicating, and supporting staff in understanding changes or updates to existing procedures, projects, or initiatives.
  • Building positive relationships and providing necessary support to internal and external clients, departments, auditors, and reinsurers.

Requirements

  • A post-secondary diploma or industry equivalent.
  • 5 years of experience in the Group Underwriting field or strong Group Benefits knowledge.
  • Experience with developing and delivering adult learning programs.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills.
  • Subject to a Background check as a condition of employment.

Experience Level

  • 5 years experience in Group Underwriting or strong Group Benefits knowledge

Education Level

  • Post-secondary diploma or industry equivalent
  • Associate, Customer Service (ACS), Fellow, Life Management Institute (FLMI) and/or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation is an asset

Salary/Compensations

  • $72,847 - $121,411
