About the Role

Reporting to the Service Manager, this role is responsible for the day-to-day repair and maintenance of the fleet of buses, ensuring work is delegated and outputs are monitored to achieve reliable, safe, and high-quality results in line with targets and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, and maintain buses.
  • Check the quality of repairs.
  • Investigate and diagnose mechanical and electronic faults.
  • Record faults and repair work using a tablet.
  • Make decisions regarding road calls.
  • Liaise with iBus and the engineering team to minimize lost mileage.
  • Delegate work to the team and monitor outputs.
  • Follow safety instructions and report issues.
  • Update the Service Manager on progress and assist with planning.
  • Potentially assume Service Manager responsibilities during their absence.

Requirements

  • Work 12-hour shifts with a four-day on, four-day off schedule.
  • Possess at least an NVQ level 2 qualification for maintenance and repair of public service vehicles or heavy goods vehicles (or an equivalent international qualification).
  • Hold current recognised qualifications in hybrid awareness and hybrid fault diagnostics.
  • Provide evidence of IRTEC and SMT qualification from the awarding body.
  • Pass the IRTEC Service Maintenance Technician exam during the six-month probation if NVQ is not held.
  • Have a good standard of Maths and English.
  • Be able to read and understand instructions and service manuals.
  • Know how to use fleet management technical computer systems.
  • Be a good team player, collaborating with direct colleagues and others.
  • Be able to meet deadlines and work flexibly, including potentially working from different depots or on different shifts.
  • Be willing to undertake any training requested by the Service Manager.
  • Be able to work effectively using own initiative.
  • Be safety conscious in all activities.
