About the Role
Reporting to the Service Manager, this role is responsible for repairing and maintaining the fleet of buses in accordance with Company policies and standards. The position ensures work is delegated and outputs are monitored to deliver consistently reliable, safe, and high-quality work, meeting specified targets, contractual obligations, and commercial objectives.
Responsibilities
- Inspecting, repairing, and maintaining buses.
- Checking the quality of repairs.
- Investigating and diagnosing mechanical and electronic faults.
- Recording faults and repair work using a tablet.
- Making decisions regarding road calls.
- Liaising with iBus and the engineering team to minimize lost mileage.
- Delegating work to the team and monitoring outputs.
- Following safety instructions and reporting issues.
- Updating the Service Manager on progress and assisting with planning.
- Potentially assuming Service Manager responsibilities during their absence.
Requirements
- Must have current recognised qualifications in hybrid awareness and hybrid fault diagnostics.
- Must provide evidence of IRTEC and SMT qualification from the awarding body.
- Must pass the IRTEC Service Maintenance Technician exam during the six-month probation if NVQ is not held.
- Must have a good standard of Maths and English.
- Must be able to read and understand instructions and service manuals.
- Must know how to use fleet management technical computer systems.
- Must be good in a team.
- Must be able to meet deadlines and work flexibly.
- Must be happy to take any training requested by the service manager.
- Must be able to work well using own initiative.
- Must be safety conscious in all actions.
Skills
- Work 12hr shifts with four days on and four days off.
- NVQ level 2 qualification for maintenance and repair of public service vehicles or heavy goods vehicles (or equivalent international qualification).
- PCV licence (preferred but not essential; training provided).
