About the Role

We are seeking a Platform Engineer to lead our UK platform engineering capability, based in London. This is a senior technical leadership role combining deep expertise in Azure/.NET and cloud-native platforms (Kubernetes) with strong stakeholder leadership and team development. You will act as the technical authority and leader across the UK, shaping platform strategy, harmonising engineering practices, and enabling high-quality, scalable digital delivery. You will lead the development and evolution of our internal platform ecosystem, ensuring it is secure, scalable, and developer centric. You will take full ownership of complex technical domains, influence senior stakeholders, and drive both strategic direction and hands-on technical excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Platform Engineering in the UK: Stand up and own the UK platform engineering capability, acting as the central point for technical leadership and alignment across product teams
  • Define Platform Strategy & Architecture: Set and drive the technical vision for the platform (Azure, Kubernetes, cloud-native), ensuring alignment with business goals and global practices
  • Act as Technical Authority: Provide deep technical leadership, solving complex platform challenges and guiding architectural decisions across teams
  • Build & Evolve Platform Services: Design and continuously improve internal platform services (CI/CD, infrastructure, observability), treating the platform as a product with clear outcomes
  • Drive Engineering Standards & Best Practices: Establish consistent patterns for security, scalability, and delivery, including Infrastructure as Code, DevOps, and SRE principles
  • Enable & Influence Delivery Teams: Work closely with product, engineering, and architecture stakeholders to improve developer experience and accelerate delivery
  • Lead, Mentor & Grow Teams: Develop a high-performing engineering culture through coaching, mentoring, and technical leadership
  • Stakeholder Management & Technical Leadership: Engage senior stakeholders, challenge constructively (“joust”), and influence decisions through strong communication and credibility.

Requirements

  • Strong experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud engineering roles
  • Deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud platform architecture
  • Proven expertise in Kubernetes, containerisation, and cloud-native patterns
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g. Terraform, Bicep)
  • Strong background in CI/CD, automation, and developer platform tooling
  • Experience with .NET / C# ecosystems and modern software architecture
  • Solid understanding of security, observability, and reliability engineering
  • Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and technical strategy
  • Strong stakeholder management, with ability to influence senior technical and non-technical audiences
  • High emotional intelligence (EQ) – able to challenge, align, and build trust across teams
  • Ability to operate at multiple levels – from hands-on engineering to strategic leadership
