About the Role
To produce, according to their specific skills, Purdey shotguns and rifles to meet all orders, on time on budget, and to the required quality standard. To continuously assist in developing the product, the technology, tooling, and processes employed, to maintain and further the highest standards of craftsmanship and quality, in line with the company objectives and standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform all craftsmanship and machining processes involved in the production of Purdey’s shotguns and rifles.
- Assist in product development by providing feedback and advice during CAD/CAM development.
- Identify and propose new processes, tooling, and methods to improve quality and reliability.
- Support Craft Managers in organizing and developing workshop activities.
- Continuously improve quality, productivity, output, and teamwork.
- Explain the craft process to visitors and customers courteously.
- Ensure a safe working environment by following procedures and using safety equipment.
- Participate in maintaining and developing the brand's culture and professional standards.
- Contribute to achieving the highest standards of quality to reduce rework.
- Participate in continuous improvement and achievement of the production schedule.
- Assist in acquiring tooling to optimize quality and cost while maintaining brand reputation.
- Support the implementation of processes and procedures to achieve company objectives.
- Assist with cost-effective and timely maintenance of factory equipment and machinery.
- Develop and safeguard information to maintain intellectual property and product excellence.
Requirements
- Time-served Gun making Apprentice, ideally certificated by The London Proof House.
- Solid BTEC Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or appropriate subject for new craft apprentices.
- Sound craft knowledge in a specialist area and broad knowledge across all gun making.
- Organized and positive with a desire to improve and develop Purdey products.
- Good communication, teamwork, and motivation skills.
- Good work ethic, able to achieve required output while maintaining high quality standards.
- Able to interact effectively with all company levels and customers.
- Capable problem solver demonstrating resourcefulness.
