About the Role
The Sr Director Corporate Communications is responsible for enhancing and protecting AstraZeneca Japan's reputation through effective corporate communications and media relations. This role supports the development and execution of integrated communications strategies, positioning AstraZeneca as a science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company. A key objective is to establish AstraZeneca as a top non-Japanese company contributing to Japan's healthcare and a trusted partner for policy dialogue. The role also contributes to building the employer brand and external reputation to support talent acquisition and retention through internal communications.
Responsibilities
- Enhance and protect AstraZeneca Japan's reputation through corporate communications and media relations.
- Support the development and execution of integrated communications strategies across corporate, product, operation, and R&D communications.
- Contribute to positioning AstraZeneca as a science-led, patient-focused biopharmaceutical company in the Japanese market.
- Establish AstraZeneca as a top non-Japanese company contributing to Japan's healthcare.
- Position the company as a 'go-to' partner for policy dialogue among non-Japanese pharmaceutical companies.
- Build recognition as a trusted partner for healthcare policy discussions with government and policy stakeholders.
- Contribute to building AstraZeneca's employer brand and external reputation to support talent acquisition.
- Foster employee engagement, connection to company purpose, and a sense of belonging through internal communications.
- Oversee corporate partnership activities, including embassy relationships, chamber of commerce engagement, and sustainability partnerships.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in corporate communications, media relations, or public relations.
- Track record of developing and executing integrated communications strategies.
- Experience in media relations with established relationships with Japanese media outlets.
- Experience in crisis/issues management is highly desirable.
- Healthcare or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred; candidates from highly regulated industries will be considered.
- Experience working in a multinational/global matrix organization.
Skills
- Native-level Japanese with business-level English (written and verbal).
- Excellent writing and editing skills in both Japanese and English.
- Strong media relations skills with ability to build and maintain journalist relationships.
- Ability to translate complex scientific/business information into compelling narratives.
- Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Digital communications proficiency including social media platforms.
- Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, matrix environment.
- Strategic thinking combined with hands-on execution capability.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Proactive, self-motivated with strong sense of accountability.
- Interest in science and passion for making a difference for patients.
