About the Role
This role is within the Banking and FX tribe, responsible for payment processing, FX pricing and trading, the ledger, reconciliation, bank integrations, FIX engine connectivity, payment compliance, and the client portal. You will build services in .NET 10 on Azure, focusing on asynchronous flows that require accuracy under challenging conditions like partner timeouts or duplicate messages. The work is end-to-end, covering the entire banking platform. You will be empowered to make design decisions within your domain, build, run, and own your services.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and run services in .NET 10 on Azure, managing them from initial commit through production support.
- Develop asynchronous flows that maintain correctness during partial failures, timeouts, retries, and duplicate deliveries.
- Contribute across the platform, including payment processing, FX, ledger, reconciliation, integrations, compliance, and the client portal.
- Integrate with banking partners and payment schemes, including undocumented aspects.
- Make and document architectural decisions for your domain, and present them to the tribe.
- Incorporate security, availability, reliability, and observability from the outset, instrumenting services for clear monitoring.
- Effectively utilize AI tooling, such as Claude Code, demonstrating judgment on its appropriate application.
- Review code, elevate team standards, and mentor less experienced engineers.
Requirements
- Extensive .NET experience with a track record of running self-owned services in production.
- Production experience on cloud platforms (Azure preferred, AWS or GCP acceptable).
- Proficiency with asynchronous, event-driven systems and their complexities (idempotency, ordering, retries, etc.).
- Experience building security, availability, reliability, and observability into systems from the start.
- Practical experience developing software with AI, understanding its benefits and limitations.
- Strong SQL Server skills, including query and schema design under load, and familiarity with code-first ORMs (EF Core is a plus).
- Solid testing instincts and the ability to articulate code protection against specific failure scenarios.
- Comfort working in a regulated environment where financial transaction changes require evidence.
- Clear communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Willingness to disagree and commit to decisions.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Willingness to undergo full background checks.
