About the Role

Provide high-quality scientific support and training delivery to key clients, including the emergency services and industrial sector. This unique and crucial role involves attending Fire Brigade incidents to provide specialist scientific support and will eventually join an out-of-hours on-call rota. Responsibilities

Provide scientific advice on all aspects of Fire Service incidents involving hazardous materials, including planning, policy, PPE selection and use, equipment deployment and maintenance, decontamination, and inter-agency liaison.
Investigate the causes and spread of fires both on-site and in the laboratory, collaborating with specialist Fire Service personnel.
Investigate the causes of accidents and equipment failures as part of a multidisciplinary team to drive safety improvements.
Provide technical training to Fire Services and other clients on various scientific disciplines and specialist subjects.
Prepare and deliver scientific reports, including witness statements and briefing documents.
Engage in continuous professional development of skills and capabilities.

Requirements

Excellent organization and planning skills with strong attention to detail, ability to multi-task and prioritize.
Focus on exceptional customer service.
Ability to organize work and produce technical reports.
Ability to manage operational and commercial issues.
Existing knowledge and capability regarding the characteristics and properties of hazardous materials (including radionuclides) and their interactions.
Experience with the use and application of detection, identification, and monitoring equipment for unknown substances.
Experience investigating the causes of fires is desirable.
Willingness to engage in continuous professional development, potentially developing new skillsets.
Confident presenter able to prepare and present technical training to diverse audiences.
Ability to research new subjects and prepare technical presentations under tight deadlines.
Physically fit and able to work in challenging environments, including wearing Fire Brigade PPE (training provided).
Self-motivated, adaptable, and resilient.
Organized, methodical, with excellent problem-solving skills.
Computer literate in standard Microsoft Office suite.
Full UK driving license.
