About the Role

ispace is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the future of lunar exploration, focusing on spacecraft mechanical design for lunar landers and satellites.

Responsibilities

  • Support structural and thermal design efforts for spacecraft system development, including lander and transportation system elements.
  • Design spacecraft structural components and conduct computational analyses.
  • Support the completion of component design specifications and design reviews.
  • Perform design work including trade studies, material selection, component and manufacturing process selection, and design validation.
  • Support test preparation, including test plans, reports, data analysis, and JIG designs for component and system tests.
  • Evaluate non-conforming materials from design and analysis perspectives and prepare reports.
  • Support detailed design of spacecraft systems for structural, thermal, and operational performance, including component layout.
  • Create 3D models and drawings for manufacturing.
  • Support spacecraft integration and evaluate assemblability, including travel to test/integration sites.
  • Provide technical coordination with suppliers and resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Report to the team lead and group manager.
  • Conduct structural design for spacecraft systems, including landers.
  • Prepare design specifications and support design reviews.
  • Perform design trade-off studies, material selection, manufacturing process selection, and design validation (analysis evaluation, unit testing).
  • Prepare test plans and reports for system or unit tests, analyze test data, and design JIGs for component/system tests.
  • Evaluate non-conforming materials and prepare reports.
  • Support detailed design of spacecraft systems for structure, thermal, and operational aspects (e.g., equipment layout).
  • Create 3D models and drawings for structural components.
  • Support spacecraft assembly work at test sites and evaluate assemblability.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, including addressing manufacturing defects.
  • Report work progress to the team lead and group manager.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Over 3 years of design experience in aerospace, aviation, or automotive applications.
  • Extensive experience with CAD software packages and drawing creation.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerance (GD&T) and stack-up calculation methods (e.g., RSS).
  • Knowledge of mechanical design, material selection, and fabrication processes for spaceflight hardware or equivalent.
  • Work experience using both Japanese and English, including meetings and documentation.
  • Comfortable with change, fast-paced environments, and learning new things.
  • Proactive attitude, team player, and strong sense of responsibility.
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency.
  • Business-level English proficiency.
  • Experience in metal material processing (machining, casting/forging, surface treatment).
