About the Role
This Manager, Media Revenue Accounting position will support the Financial Reporting Team within the Controller’s Group. The successful candidate will leverage strong technical accounting and communication skills to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of revenue accounting, and for effective and efficient processes and internal controls around their preparation and approval. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the reconciliation of Media results and assist with various ad hoc special projects.
Responsibilities
- Leverage a strong understanding of accounting processes, controls, and financial documentation to ensure all journal entries are adequately supported, reviewed, and posted by established close deadlines.
- Review monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and help team investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner.
- Assist with working capital budgeting and forecasting for AR and deferred revenue.
- Ensure complete and accurate Media revenue accounting, reporting and analysis.
- Drive a culture of continuous process improvement and enhancement of internal controls.
- Support quarterly and annual audit requirements, including advertising revenue audits, NHL specified procedures, and the execution of SOX controls.
- Prepare or review various internal and external reports, including Revenue by Province, Foreign Earnings and Spending Reports, and Digital Revenue Report.
- Research new revenue initiatives and recommend, document, implement the appropriate revenue accounting treatment and related controls.
- Effectively lead and develop a team of two employees, providing coaching, guidance, and opportunities for professional growth.
- Support billing and revenue-related special projects, analyses, and business initiatives.
- Assist in developing billing system requirements for system enhancements and changes impacting revenue reporting.
- Drive improvements to Media billing systems through streamlining, automation, and process simplification.
Requirements
- CPA designation with a minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in public practice or industry.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, including senior management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, experience with data management and analysis is considered an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear, concise, and insightful reports and presentations.
- Excellent software skills in MS Office, billing systems, Oracle Financial System, Discoverer and ADI.
- Self-motivated, customer-focused, and results-oriented, with a strong sense of accountability.
- Ability to independently manage and organize multiple work activities to meet or exceed established deadlines and priorities.
- Ability to drive change to enhance processes and improve deliverables.
