About the Role

Partner with business leaders, Risk and control teams to support the effective management of non-financial risk across the International Institutional business. Provide risk insights and constructive challenge on key risk themes, control effectiveness and business activities, helping stakeholders make informed decisions within risk appetite. Support the application of the non-financial risk framework through governance activities, risk assessments, monitoring, reporting and timely escalation of issues, while contributing to the continuous improvement of controls and risk management practices. Play an active role in supporting regulatory change initiatives and maintaining a regulator-ready environment through strong documentation, issue management and implementation of regulatory requirements. Support the delivery and embedding of the PACT program across the region, tracking progress, driving adoption of new processes and controls, and escalating risks where required. Work collaboratively with stakeholders across business, Risk and control functions to build risk capability, promote consistent risk practices and contribute to strong customer, regulatory and business outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business leaders on non-financial risk matters, helping them make informed decisions within risk appetite.
  • Provide thought leadership input and constructive challenge on key risk themes, control effectiveness and risk impacts across business activities.
  • Build strong working relationships with business, Risk and control partners across the organisation.
  • Drive the effective application of the non-financial risk framework, including governance forums, reporting and escalation activities.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, monitoring and reporting of material risks, ensuring issues are raised and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to strengthening the control environment through enhancements to controls, processes and risk management practices.
  • Coordinate and influence regulatory engagement activities through effective documentation, issue management and maintenance of a regulator-ready environment.
  • Assist with the implementation of regulatory changes by translating requirements into practical business actions and control enhancements.
  • Provide insights on emerging risks and evolving regulatory expectations, highlighting potential impacts to stakeholders.
  • Drive the delivery and embedding of PACT initiatives, including tracking progress, driving adoption and escalating risks or issues as required.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the International NFR team to deliver strong risk outcomes and share knowledge and best practices.
  • Engage with stakeholders across business, Risk and control functions to support consistent risk practices while recognising local market requirements.
  • Contribute to key risk initiatives and continuous improvement activities that strengthen non-financial risk capability across the region.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in institutional banking, with exposure to non-financial risk management and a strong understanding of Markets, Transaction Banking, Corporate Finance and Coverage.
  • Sound knowledge of non-financial risk frameworks, governance processes and control environments within a complex banking organisation.
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with business stakeholders and support balanced risk-based decision-making.
  • Experience interpreting and implementing regulatory requirements and embedding changes into business processes and controls.
  • Exposure to risk, control, regulatory change or transformation initiatives.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across business, Risk and control functions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to simplify and clearly articulate complex risk matters.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with attention to detail and sound judgement.
  • Experience preparing or using risk reporting and data-driven insights to support governance and decision-making.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguity and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with risk systems, governance tools and control monitoring processes.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Risk, Finance, Commerce, Business, Law or a related discipline; professional qualifications in Risk, Governance, Compliance or Finance will be highly regarded.
  • Professional fluency in both Japanese and English is preferred, with the ability to communicate effectively with local regulators and stakeholders in Japan, while collaborating across regional and global teams.
