About the Role
As an M&A Intern, you’ll work directly with the CEO and founding team across the full M&A process. You’ll help turn conversations with business owners into well-run processes, keep live deals moving, and ensure the right information gets to the right person at the right time. This is a hands-on apprenticeship in modern M&A, offering exposure to mandate acquisition, business valuation, buyer identification, and deal closing. You will also contribute to improving the systems and AI workflows used in transactions.
Responsibilities
- Support the CEO across seller conversations, buyer outreach, deal preparation, and transaction follow-ups.
- Build and maintain financial models, valuation analyses, scenario analyses, and other decision materials used in live transactions.
- Prepare meeting briefs, call notes, action items, and next steps that keep every process moving.
- Help build market maps, buyer lists, company profiles, teasers, CIM materials, and client-ready presentations.
- Coordinate diligence requests, data-room materials, timelines, and communication across sellers, buyers, advisors, investors, and internal teams.
- Research and develop relationships with strategic buyers, search funds, private equity firms, and individual acquirers across North America.
- Maintain accurate deal and relationship data for pipeline visibility.
- Utilize Succession AI’s tools to accelerate research, analysis, buyer sourcing, and process management, while providing product feedback.
- Collaborate across M&A, product, engineering, and operations to improve playbooks, templates, workflows, and product feedback.
- Translate client and deal-team needs into clear requirements and assist in developing practical tools.
- Own focused cross-functional projects to enhance M&A function speed, clarity, and scalability.
Requirements
- Strong foundation in finance with the ability to build, read, and explain financial models.
- Understanding of three-statement modeling, valuation, financial analysis, and assumption impact.
- Prior client-facing experience through an internship, work term, project, or role in finance, M&A, consulting, accounting, investment banking, corporate development, entrepreneurship, or a related field.
- Comfortable working directly with business owners, buyers, investors, and senior stakeholders.
- Ability to prepare for conversations, ask thoughtful questions, take clear notes, and follow through.
- Highly organized with the ability to track details, deadlines, and follow-ups across multiple workstreams.
- Clear writing and confident communication skills, with discretion for sensitive information.
- Analytical and comfortable working with spreadsheets, research, and imperfect information.
- High agency: ability to investigate unclear or broken processes, make recommendations, and drive progress.
- Comfortable working across functions, from financial models to client calls to product feedback.
- Low-ego, fast-learning, and excited to work in person with a founding team.
