About the Role

Diamond Charter School (DCS) is a new, innovative educational institution opening in September 2026 in Hempstead, NY. We are dedicated to empowering students academically, personally, and socially through a dynamic environment rooted in Creativity, Citizenship, Critical Thinking, and Cultural Appreciation. Our extended day/year program, inclusive environment, and focus on social-emotional learning (SEL) prepare diverse students for lifelong learning and compassionate leadership. We seek passionate educators to build a school that makes a difference, utilizing student-centered, high-quality, rigorous, and personalized education methods.

Responsibilities

  • Co-plan and co-teach daily lessons with the general education teacher using inclusive co-teaching models.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
  • Implement evidence-based interventions in literacy, math, and social development.
  • Provide small-group and individualized instruction aligned to students’ IEP goals.
  • Modify and adapt curriculum materials to ensure accessibility.
  • Use multi-sensory and developmentally appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collect and analyze student data to track progress toward IEP goals.
  • Write measurable annual goals and progress reports.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with families and service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations.
  • Collaborate regularly with general education teachers, related service providers, school psychologists, and administrators.
  • Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress.
  • Participate in grade-level and professional learning meetings.
  • Foster an inclusive, structured, and nurturing classroom environment.
  • Implement positive behavior supports and classroom management strategies.
  • Support students’ social-emotional growth and independence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid state certification in Special Education (Early Childhood or Childhood Education).
  • Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and inclusive practices.
  • Experience working with early elementary students (K–2).
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education (Preferred).
  • Experience in an ICT or inclusive classroom setting (Preferred).
  • Training in literacy intervention programs and behavior management systems (Preferred).
  • Strong data collection and progress monitoring skills (Preferred).
