About the Role

The Deputy Program Director (DPD) will serve as the successor to the Program Director (PD), progressively assuming responsibility for all program leadership aspects over approximately one fiscal year. This role involves developing the necessary knowledge, relationships, and leadership skills to independently fulfill the PD's responsibilities while increasing operational leadership.

Responsibilities

• Be a full-time Friend to one child.
• Develop leadership to inspire, develop, and evaluate the Program team.
• Serve as a role model and mentor for Program team members.
• Oversee the performance of the Program team and conduct annual performance appraisals.
• Hold Program team members accountable for work performance.
• Participate with the senior management team in strategic planning, budget development, and organizational decision-making.
• Develop knowledge for designing and implementing initial and ongoing Friends training.
• Gain a thorough understanding of family needs and ensure youth development expectations are met.
• Participate in and co-facilitate Program Manager and staff meetings.
• Oversee the implementation and adherence to the Program Fidelity Agreement.
• Participate in Network PD meetings and build relationships with other chapters.
• Research, develop, implement, and sustain best practice programming.
• Manage the child identification and selection process.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner schools and community selection partners.
• Utilize program data to develop and implement enrichment activities and ensure program excellence.
• Ensure youth reach their long-term outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with budgets and program guidelines.
• Maintain connection and communication with all school districts and schools attended by youth.
• Shadow the supervision and development of activities, data utilization, and decisions for literacy efforts and 2Gen services.
• Oversee the recruiting, selection, and hiring of new Friends and other staff.
• Develop trusting, supportive relationships with families and guardians.
• Oversee the resolution of critical issues that arise with youth.
• Ensure the quality, integrity, and timely entry of program data.
• Ensure compliance with and accountability to the organization’s policies, procedures, and practices.
• Understand and inspire others to buy into the organization’s mission, vision, values, and principles.
• Serve as an effective and compelling spokesperson for the organization.
• Attend Board meetings and progressively assume responsibility for program reporting and presentations.
• Develop, implement, and oversee other projects as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Progressively assume supervisory responsibility for the Senior Program Manager, Program Managers, Family Engagement Specialist, and Literacy Project Manager.

Requirements

• Fully bilingual in English and Spanish (written and verbal).
• Seven to ten years’ experience working with child-related programs.
• Three to five years in a leadership or management role with a history of delivering measurable improvements in organizational performance while advancing positive outcomes for children.
• Experience navigating the foster care system.
• Knowledge of special education and bilingual education systems.
• Experience collaborating with schools and empowering families to advocate for students' educational needs.
• Knowledge of child development and child needs.
• Awareness of community resources.
• Ability to independently initiate, cultivate, and sustain relationships with community resources.
• Reliable transportation with a private vehicle.
• Work in Friends Austin office at least three days a week.
