About the Role

Canopy is seeking a seasoned and pragmatic Sr Mobile Software Engineer to design and build our mobile offerings. This is a high-impact, hands-on role for an engineer who thrives on solving complex problems and bridging the gap between business needs and technical execution. We are looking for a leader who can take end-to-end ownership of critical projects, mentor fellow engineers, and make strategic decisions that shape our technical future.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of critical, user-facing features and backend services.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of projects, from initial ideation and technical design through to deployment and post-launch maintenance.
  • Partner closely with Product Managers, Designers, and business stakeholders to shape the product roadmap and translate business requirements into robust, scalable technical solutions.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and constructive feedback through code reviews and design discussions.
  • Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions, making pragmatic tradeoffs between long-term scalability and immediate business needs.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, and set the standard for code quality across the team.
  • Deconstruct ambiguous, complex problems into clear, actionable steps for the team.
  • Identify and address performance bottlenecks, production issues, and sources of technical debt.
  • Improve engineering standards, tooling, and processes to enhance team productivity and system reliability.
  • Identify ways to leverage AI to increase software development velocity.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience, with a proven track record of shipping high-impact products on schedule.
  • Demonstrated proficiency of system design, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Mastery of mobile app constraints (network connectivity, touch UX accessibility, etc) and how to leverage or overcome them.
  • Can architect and deliver performant and resilient mobile applications from scratch.
  • Understands source code in any modern language at a glance.
  • Deep expertise in either iOS or Android, with experience developing for the other.
  • A strong product mindset and the ability to think from a user's perspective.
  • Proven ability to work independently and drive projects forward with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical projects.
  • Experience working in a cross-functional environment and a proven ability to collaborate effectively with non-technical stakeholders.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving, with a knack for balancing technical purity with business velocity.
