About the Role

The Technical Sales Coordinator provides application-engineering support to the Consulting Engineers team throughout the design and proposal process. This role supports the review of project requirements, equipment sizing and selection, and the preparation of technical and commercial proposals, ensuring alignment with specifications and Armstrong standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support the review of project requirements, sizing and selecting equipment, and preparing accurate technical and commercial proposals.
  • Ensure proposed solutions align with consultant specifications, system performance requirements, and Armstrong standards.
  • Support the translation of project needs into technically sound, competitive, and energy-efficient solutions.
  • Support project reviews, alternatives and value-engineered selections, technical documentation, and timely follow-up from early design through quotation and award.
  • Review schedules, specifications, drawings, equipment duty points, sequences of operation, and other project documents to confirm application requirements.
  • Size and select pumps, packaged systems, controls, heat-transfer equipment, and related Armstrong solutions using ADEPT and other approved engineering tools.
  • Validate flow, head, system configuration, motor horsepower, operating range, efficiency, materials, controls, accessories, redundancy, and applicable code or project requirements.
  • Develop optimized selections that balance first cost, energy performance, reliability, serviceability, and lifecycle value.
  • Identify incomplete, conflicting, or high-risk requirements and obtain clarification before finalizing a selection or proposal.
  • Prepare complete, accurate, and timely technical and commercial proposals, including selections, pricing, scope, options, exclusions, lead times, and supporting documentation.
  • Review consultant specifications and prepare compliance statements, deviations, alternatives, and value-engineered solutions where appropriate.
  • Prepare and coordinate selection reports, performance curves, technical data, drawings, specifications, and other proposal documents.
  • Maintain proposal accuracy and version control, and ensure revisions are clearly documented and communicated to stakeholders.
  • Support requests for information, technical clarifications, addenda, bid reviews, and post-bid questions.
  • Conduct detailed project reviews at key stages to verify that selections and proposals remain aligned with the latest design documents and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with product specialists, manufacturing, operations, customer service, and regional sales to confirm feasibility, pricing, lead time, special requirements, and delivery expectations.
  • Support submittal review, approved-equal requests, equipment revisions, and technical issue resolution from design through award and handoff.
  • Track assigned opportunities, proposal status, revisions, and key project information using CRM and internal systems.
  • Escalate technical, commercial, schedule, or compliance risks promptly and recommend practical solutions.
  • Provide responsive technical support to consulting engineers and the CE sales team during project development and specification activities.
  • Participate in project meetings, technical reviews, Lunch & Learn sessions, and product demonstrations when application-engineering expertise is required.
  • Explain selection rationale, system performance, controls, and energy-saving opportunities clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Share recurring application issues and market feedback with product management, engineering, and software teams to improve products, tools, and processes.
  • Contribute to standard selection practices, proposal templates, technical resources, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or technologist diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Building Systems, Energy Systems, or a related technical discipline.
  • 1-2 years of application engineering, HVAC equipment selection, technical estimating, proposal, or related industry experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Strong understanding of hydronic HVAC systems, pumps, system curves, controls, heat-transfer principles, and energy-efficient system design.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, specifications, sequences of operation, and tender documents.
  • Experience with product-selection and quotation software; experience with ADEPT or comparable HVAC selection tools is an asset.
  • Knowledge of variable-speed pumping, sensorless control, packaged systems, and system optimization is an asset.
  • Professional working proficiency in English.
  • French is an asset but is not required for this Ontario-based role.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally within Ontario for project meetings, training, and customer support.

Skills

  • Ability to manage multiple proposals, priorities, and deadlines in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information concisely.
  • Collaborative, service-oriented approach when working with consulting engineers, sales teams, product specialists, and operations.
