About the Role
Tarte is seeking a hands-on, experienced engineer to join their technology team. This role involves writing code, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and shaping the technology for a growing global e-commerce business. The engineer will be a key technical partner across the commerce ecosystem, contributing to architecture, solving complex challenges, and developing thoughtful solutions that support the customer experience and drive business growth.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to Shopify Plus custom apps using Liquid, Node.js, and React.
- Own and extend AWS Lambda functions for OMS integrations.
- Partner with the OMS team on backend integrations across order management, fulfillment, and downstream systems.
- Evaluate technical options, identify solutions, and explain technical decisions.
- Provide technical judgment for architecture and development decisions.
- Review technical approaches, identify risks, and share best practices.
- Build scalable solutions for immediate needs and long-term growth.
- Act as a resource for other engineers through technical discussions and code reviews.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Merchandising, and Product teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Connect technical decisions to business outcomes and communicate complex ideas clearly.
- Own technical vendor evaluations, including defining criteria and providing recommendations.
- Stay updated on the Shopify Plus roadmap and e-commerce landscape.
- Identify platform changes and opportunities to benefit tarte.
- Focus on site performance, digital accessibility, and customer experience.
- Contribute to AI-enabled deployment workflows, product discovery, and automated quality gates.
- Experiment with and implement AI applications across the commerce stack.
Requirements
- 7+ years of e-commerce engineering experience.
- Strong, hands-on Shopify Plus experience, including Liquid, Shopify APIs, custom apps, Checkout Extensibility, Shopify Flow, metafields, and multi-market configuration.
- Hands-on experience with AWS Lambda or equivalent serverless technologies, including building, troubleshooting, and maintaining functions.
- Experience architecting integrations across the commerce ecosystem, including ERP, OMS, CRM, payments, and fulfillment.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical architecture and decisions to both technical and non-technical partners.
- Experience mentoring and collaborating with other engineers and sharing technical knowledge.
- Comfortable owning vendor evaluations, including setting criteria, assessing technical capabilities, and providing recommendations.
- Flexible and adaptable approach with the ability to respond to changing priorities and feedback.
- Solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to find creative and practical alternatives.
- JavaScript / TypeScript, React, and Node.js skills.
- GraphQL, REST APIs, and webhook-based integrations experience.
- CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and automated testing experience.
- Understanding of web performance fundamentals, including Core Web Vitals, page speed, and third-party script management.
- Hands-on experience using Postman for troubleshooting, validating, and diagnosing API behavior.
- Experience with GEO, LLM-based product discovery, or AI tooling within an e-commerce environment.
- Experience working within founder-led, DTC, beauty, fashion, or lifestyle brands.
- Understanding of succeeding in a fast-moving consumer brand with evolving priorities.
- Curiosity about emerging e-commerce technologies and a desire to continuously test, learn, and improve.
- Ability to balance technical depth with a strong understanding of the customer and business.
