About the Role
The Assistant Research Librarian supports the delivery of Research services across US offices, providing research and current awareness support to lawyers and business services teams. The role also handles administrative and operational tasks essential for efficient service delivery.
Responsibilities
- Support the firm's strategy by delivering high-quality business and legal research using online and hardcopy resources.
- Provide research support for the panel pitches process.
- Deliver a current awareness service using legal and business information resources.
- Produce and collate newsletters on sectors, clients, or key topics.
- Manage the complete lifecycle of hardcopy material, including selection, procurement, cataloguing, updating records, and disposal.
- Liaise with stakeholders to evaluate requirements.
- Utilize infrastructure products (Library Management System, Resource Management System) to track and analyze database usage.
- Liaise with external suppliers to resolve technical, content, or access issues with resources.
- Process payment of invoices.
- Design and deliver training on online information products and research techniques.
- Assist end-users in developing their research skills and strategies.
- Act as a collaborative member of the Research team, supporting projects as needed.
- Perform administrative duties such as credentialing new employees.
- Ensure accurate and timely management of user access.
- Maintain high standards for catalogue and resource records.
- Resolve vendor issues promptly and effectively.
- Contribute to the successful delivery of system and operational projects.
- Complete reference and research requests on time and to user satisfaction.
- Demonstrate ability to work within policies and guidelines and contribute to department goals.
Requirements
- Masters in Library Science or equivalent.
- Ideally 1-2 years' experience in a professional services library or other library/information service environment.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- Proficiency in basic technical skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint (preferred).
- Basic understanding of data analysis and reporting techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
