About the Role
The Housekeeper is responsible for maintaining the common areas and client units of the Continental Safe Haven, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for residents. This role supports the mission of providing housing and services to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Responsibilities
- Sweep, mop, wash, dust, and vacuum common areas.
- Seal, wax, and buff floors and hard surfaces.
- Maintain sidewalks, including sweeping, raking leaves, and shoveling snow.
- Clean individual units when vacated or requested by work order.
- Sort and package recyclables according to NYC regulations.
- Operate compactor.
- Set up and clean up for meetings and other events.
- Assist painters and engineers when assigned.
- Perform work at other facilities as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Comparable work experience.
- Experience operating a vacuum cleaner and high-speed buffer.
- Ability to lift and move furniture, appliances, etc.
- Ability to stand for several hours during shift and to climb stairs in the event of an emergency.
- Experience working with special needs populations is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of using a computer is a plus, but not required.
