About the Role

The Director of Nursing for Medical/Surgical and Telemetry Units manages and supervises assigned patient care areas on a 24-hour basis, ensuring effective clinical patient care delivery and compliance with budgets and policies. This role also oversees off-shift and weekend Administrative Supervisors and serves as a role model within the leadership team, promoting a positive culture focused on patient care and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

Manage, supervise, and coordinate patient care delivery for assigned areas on a 24-hour basis.
Interact with patients and families to ensure optimal patient experience.
Staff units according to census, skill mix guidelines, and departmental budget.
Perform nursing supervision and house-wide bed management.
Evaluate and direct Administrative Supervisors to ensure optimal nursing care, throughput, and staffing.
Manage unit inventory, equipment, and supplies.
Establish collegial relationships with other departments to support patient care and safety.
Maintain clinical competencies for the assigned area.
Assess, coach, and evaluate staff practice.
Assist in developing and implementing programs for clinical development.
Oversee personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
Maintain required unit records, reports, and statistics.
Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality control, PI, safety, environmental, and infection control.
Communicate requirements to staff and hold them accountable.
Coordinate the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures to improve operational efficiency.
Coordinate QC/PI activities with appropriate staff.
