About the Role
As a Director, Software Development for Personal Lines at Intact, you will lead several squads and their managers, owning the end-to-end delivery, architecture, technical health, portfolio, investment, and people development for your value stream. This role is at the intersection of technology and people, requiring a passionate advocate for teams, customers, and the technological vision, capable of balancing long-term direction, stakeholder delivery, and individual careers.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end delivery for your value stream, making necessary decisions to meet commitments.
- Partner with business sponsors to translate objectives into a technology roadmap.
- Define and track key metrics (delivery flow, quality, reliability) for continuous improvement.
- Coach and develop managers and emerging leaders, building a strong talent pipeline.
- Own talent management for your value stream, including hiring, development, performance, and career growth.
- Foster psychological safety to encourage smart risks and open learning.
- Collaborate with other directors to enhance engineering practices across teams.
- Create and promote a long-term architectural vision for scalable and resilient systems.
- Own and deliver on the technical product backlog and technical health roadmap, including modernization of legacy systems.
- Lead within a federated architecture model, empowering teams to make decisions.
- Lead portfolio management and prioritization in partnership with business groups, IT Business Office, and Finance.
- Own and manage the budget, making transparent trade-offs.
- Protect capacity for technical health and compounding work over urgent requests.
- Drive the adoption of AI across the product development lifecycle (discovery, design, test, ship, support).
- Set an example by using AI in personal work and making it safe and normal for teams.
- Lead the transition to a product-centric technology operating model, integrating feature development, operations, security, and reliability.
- Promote continuous delivery, aiming for rapid idea-to-production cycles.
- Collaborate across departments to break down silos and align technology goals with corporate objectives.
- Ensure system stability, security, and availability with a focus on observability and operational discipline.
- Integrate regulatory and compliance requirements into team workflows and partner with security and compliance teams to mitigate risk.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in a management position at a Director level.
- Experience managing managers in a software engineering organization.
- Experience leading transformation initiatives.
- In-depth knowledge of software engineering principles, processes, and practices.
- Ability to hold technical conversations with engineers.
- Track record of leading change that improved productivity, quality, predictability, and delivery flow.
- Hands-on familiarity with integrating AI into team workflows for design, build, test, and ship.
- Strong skills in critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving with attention to detail.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build consensus.
- A strong overall technologist with a passion for continuous learning and growth.

- For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism (French / English) is required.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
- No Canadian work experience required.
