About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated Vice President Java Developer to join our Front Office Fixed Income Technology team in New York. The successful candidate will partner directly with traders, sales, quants, risk managers, and business stakeholders to design, develop, and support mission-critical trading, pricing, risk, and trade lifecycle management applications. This is a hands-on development role requiring strong technical expertise, solid Fixed Income business knowledge, and the ability to deliver high-performance, scalable solutions in a fast-paced front-office environment. The candidate will play a key role in modernizing the technology stack, driving engineering best practices, and leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot to enhance productivity and software quality.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain front-office applications using Java 17+.
- Build high-performance, low-latency, and scalable services supporting trading, pricing, risk management, position management, and trade lifecycle workflows.
- Develop microservices and event-driven solutions using modern architecture patterns.
- Design and implement robust APIs and integrations with internal and external systems.
- Participate in architecture, design, development, testing, deployment, and production support activities.
- Work directly with traders, sales teams, quants, risk managers, operations users, and business stakeholders to deliver technology solutions.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into scalable technical designs.
- Partner closely with the business to automate workflows and improve operational efficiency.
- Drive software engineering best practices including clean code, TDD, automated testing, secure coding, code reviews, and CI/CD.
- Promote observability, resiliency, and operational excellence across applications.
- Utilize GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted development tools to improve software delivery, code quality, documentation, test coverage, and developer productivity.
- Provide Level 3 support for business-critical production systems.
- Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Participate in release planning, deployment activities, and production readiness reviews.
- Collaborate with global technology teams across New York, London, and Asia.
- Work closely with DevOps, infrastructure, architecture, QA, and business teams.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical leadership across the organization.
Requirements
- Extensive hands-on software development experience using Java, preferably Java 17 or later.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot, RESTful APIs, Microservices architecture, Multithreading and concurrency, Event-driven architectures, Messaging technologies (Kafka, MQ, or JMS), and Relational databases and SQL.
- Strong understanding of Data structures and algorithms, Object-oriented design and design patterns, Distributed systems, Performance tuning and optimization, and Scalable application architectures.
- Demonstrated experience using GitHub Copilot and AI-assisted software development tools.
- Ability to effectively leverage GitHub Copilot for software development, code generation, unit and integration test creation, refactoring, code modernization, documentation generation, code reviews, and productivity improvements.
- Strong understanding of validating AI-generated code and applying engineering best practices.
- Experience working within Front Office technology organizations in investment banking.
- Strong understanding of Fixed Income products.
- Experience building or supporting trading, pricing, risk management, position management, or trade lifecycle management systems.
- Strong experience implementing Test-Driven Development (TDD), Automated testing frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and Production support and incident management processes.
- Proven track record delivering enterprise applications from inception through production deployment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced front-office environment.
- Strong collaboration and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud (Preferred).
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (Preferred).
- Knowledge of Fixed Income risk analytics including DV01, PV01, CS01, VaR, and stress testing (Preferred).
- Experience integrating with trading and market platforms such as Bloomberg TOMS, Bloomberg ALLQ, Tradeweb, MarketAxess, BrokerTec, or Tradeweb (Preferred).
- Experience developing real-time risk, position, or trade management systems (Preferred).
- Experience leading technical design discussions and mentoring development teams (Preferred).
