About the Role

The Custodian supports the efforts of Custodial Services to maintain safe, clean, orderly, and sanitary conditions throughout the campus community. The Custodian takes appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participates in the College’s efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general custodial work required to maintain safe, clean, orderly, and sanitary conditions in buildings and their adjacent grounds in accordance with established work routines, cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly workspace that meets all environmental health and safety standards, including managing universal and hazardous waste within their buildings.
  • Effectively collaborate with a diverse set of colleagues, ensuring a respectful, inclusive climate.
  • Strip, screen, and refinish floors, extract carpets, wash walls, ceilings and glass, perform snow removal, support the campus-wide recycling program, as well as complete monthly work request forms, building inspections, and student damage reports.
  • Troubleshoot and carry out routine repairs of cleaning equipment, and building trade related issues which do not require a license.
  • Assist special services and event support services as needed in facilitating events and general trucking on campus.
  • Clean and maintain, regularly inspect, monitor, and report maintenance issues, waste management, inventory supply management, energy conservation through monitoring lights and electronics, communicating and coordinating with students, OSA housing staff around observed issues with residential life and dorm rooms, as well as coordinating with academic and administrative staff around situations within non-dorm buildings.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Basic math skills, including adding and subtracting
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong customer service, organizational, and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Commitment to contributing to an intentionally inclusive and respectful climate
  • Attention to detail
  • An acceptable background and reference check, and criminal offender records information (CORI) check
  • Successful completion of pre-employment physical and lift test
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be credentialed to drive College vehicles
