About the Role

To provide health and safety advice and support for housing services, ensuring the London Borough of Lewisham meets its legal obligations across all relevant statutory health and safety legislation and guidance. The Housing Health & Safety Manager will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight, acting as a subject matter advisor and driving risk assessments within the housing directorate.

Responsibilities

  • Provide health and safety advice and support to deliver housing services.
  • Ensure compliance with legal obligations across statutory health and safety legislation and guidance.
  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for housing-related health and safety functions.
  • Contribute to a process-based best practice approach to health & safety.
  • Act as a subject matter advisor for managers within the housing directorate.
  • Drive and enable suitable and sufficient risk assessment of tasks and activities within the Council housing directorate.
  • Foresee requirements for developments in Health, Safety, Statutory Compliance and Welfare practices.
  • Meet changing needs within the Council or in response to legal and legislative changes.
  • Work collaboratively with other Health & Safety Business Partners and the Council’s Corporate Health & Safety Team.

Requirements

  • Understanding of the Health, Safety and Welfare Legal and Statutory requirements, responsibilities and obligations of a large, diverse and complex organisation.
  • Understanding of the Health, Safety and Welfare policies, strategies, practices, systems, audits, reviews, performance standards and targets needed to ensure compliance.
  • Understanding of Local Government structures.
  • Must read the applicant handbook and complete the application fully.
  • Supporting statement must cover how each person specification criterion is met.
