About the Role
Thrive Education Partners seeks an experienced educator to provide personalized, in-person support to a middle-school student in North Austin. This role focuses on strengthening math skills, developing organization, study habits, and executive functioning. You will meet with the student twice weekly for one-hour sessions, offering academic support and practical strategies.
Responsibilities
- Provide engaging, individualized academic support across math, English language arts, science, and social studies.
- Reinforce middle-school math concepts, address skill gaps, and help the student work through challenging material.
- Support homework, studying, test preparation, and day-to-day coursework across core academic subjects.
- Teach practical executive functioning strategies for organization, planning, time management, studying, and assignment management.
- Help the student prioritize responsibilities, break larger assignments into manageable steps, and stay on top of upcoming work.
- Build routines and systems that encourage greater independence, confidence, and follow-through across classes.
- Communicate with the family about progress, current priorities, and areas where additional support may be helpful.
Requirements
- Experience teaching or tutoring middle-school students.
- Comfort supporting core middle-school subjects, including math, English language arts, science, and social studies.
- Confidence with middle-school math and ability to explain concepts in different ways.
- Experience supporting executive functioning, including organization, planning, time management, study skills, and task completion.
- Ability to move naturally between helping with immediate coursework and teaching habits and strategies for independent learning.
- Warmth, patience, and encouragement, combined with appropriate structure and accountability.
- Ability to adapt sessions based on weekly needs while building consistent routines and stronger learning habits.
- Clear communication with families about progress, priorities, and areas for support.
