About the Role

Block-by-Block California employs Ambassadors to enhance public spaces, making them friendlier, safer, and cleaner for the communities they serve. This role is ideal for individuals who are outgoing, friendly, enjoy working outdoors, and meeting new people. It's also a great opportunity for retirees, veterans, and graduating high school seniors seeking their first job.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high level of visibility at the street level to carry out a wide variety of cleaning tasks in the assigned zone.
• Maintain a positive, professional demeanor at all times.
• Actively acknowledge and engage pedestrians and visitors with a friendly greeting/smile to provide directions and/or city information.
• Remove litter, including fast food bags, cups, soda cans, cigarette butts, and other debris from streets, sidewalks, and alleys.
• Remove graffiti and posters from light posts, trash cans, and news boxes.
• Pull weeds from tree wells, sidewalk cracks, and vacant lots.
• Damp wipe and straighten outdoor surfaces such as trash can lids and news boxes.
• Monitor for unwanted behaviors or criminal activity and report to Safety Ambassadors via two-way radios.
• Complete basic daily reports of tasks completed.

Requirements

• One year of cleaning experience preferred; training is provided.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
• Must have the physical capacity to walk or traverse continuously during an eight-hour shift, with breaks and lunch.
• Must be able to work outdoors in all conditions.
• Must be proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language to complete basic reports.
