About the Role
As a Billing Specialist, you will help ensure accurate and timely processing of medical claims. This role is ideal for detail-oriented individuals who thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to apply their billing expertise within a supportive team. Your work will directly impact efficiency, revenue, and patient satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Review and process patient medical records for accurate charge posting and billing.
- Maintain knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding systems for appropriate code assignment, adhering to payer guidelines.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies, including batch transmission reconciliation.
- Communicate with healthcare providers, patients, and insurance companies regarding billing inquiries.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical billing systems and practices.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations for medical billing and reimbursement.
- Collaborate with medical office staff to resolve billing discrepancies.
- Maintain understanding of medical insurance programs and coverage.
- Research and capture all billing activities (e-bill management), potentially using EMR or Data Warehouse systems.
- Contact patients and/or provider offices for insurance information and provide guidance on policy terms.
- Respond promptly to the revenue cycle management team and external vendors for claim resubmission and denial resolution.
- Assist in developing protocols and workflows for correct billing and maximum reimbursement.
- Maintain understanding of payer websites for eligibility and navigation of Practice Management integrated eligibility module.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 3-4 years of experience in medical billing required.
- Basic knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT Codes required.
- Ability to multi-task with accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to utilize computer programs.
