About the Role
Whatnot is seeking a Head of Launch for the UK market to scale categories and drive strategic vision, general management, and market development. This role involves defining category strategies, leading cross-functional teams, and spearheading the launch of new verticals by building thriving communities, supply, and demand.
Responsibilities
- Map the UK e-commerce landscape, analyze market data, and engage with sellers and buyers to identify priority categories.
- Define category strategies tailored to UK consumer culture, focusing on communities and seller archetypes for growth.
- Develop and communicate action plans for addressing market challenges and opportunities.
- Create a playbook for identifying and validating new category opportunities in the UK.
- Directly manage and develop a team of launchers responsible for seller onboarding, growth, influencer activation, and community events.
- Set performance goals and KPIs for the team, conduct 1:1s, provide feedback, and ensure accountability.
- Invest in team member growth through development opportunities, stretch assignments, and coaching.
- Define hiring needs and participate in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new talent.
- Foster a culture of ownership, curiosity, and strong seller relationships within the team.
- Lead the end-to-end launch of new verticals in the UK, from hypothesis to growth.
- Identify and prioritize categories based on UK consumer demand, supply ecosystems, community enthusiasm, and platform strengths.
- Build and refine repeatable launch playbooks for category launches and potential scaling to other European markets.
- Collaborate with product, marketing, operations, and engineering to secure necessary platform features and support.
- Define success metrics for new verticals, conduct experiments, and make data-driven decisions.
- Identify growth opportunities and collaborate cross-functionally to implement initiatives that drive growth.
- Propose and run experiments with executives to adapt to evolving category dynamics.
- Act as the primary internal voice of the UK market, providing local context and seller insights.
- Build relationships with top UK sellers and buyers to understand their needs and ensure product/operations alignment.
- Represent Whatnot at industry events and communities to build brand credibility and identify new opportunities.
- Guide the team to understand the business and product for compelling seller pitches and community growth.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in fast-paced, client-facing roles in high-output environments (e.g., Strategy Consulting, Venture Capital, Private Equity, or partnerships at a fast-paced tech company).
- Passion for the mission and a relentless focus on improving user experiences.
- Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams, setting vision, developing talent, and managing performance.
- Experience launching new products, categories, or markets from scratch.
- Ability to move from ambiguity to a clear plan and achieve traction.
- Fluent in English with a nuanced understanding of UK consumer culture, e-commerce dynamics, and purchasing behavior.
- Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels ('player-coach').
- Resourceful and able to achieve results with constrained resources.
- Comfortable using data to generate insights, define metrics, and drive decisions.
- Must live within commuting distance of the London, UK hub.
