About the Role

Family Life Academy Charter School (FLACS) is seeking dynamic educators to join a network of high-performing charter schools in the South Bronx. FLACS aims to create conditions for self-empowerment, enabling K-12 students to excel academically, take responsibility for their learning, and affirm human values. The Science Teacher will engage students in learning to develop in-depth content understanding and key skills, using a shared curriculum aligned with NYS standards. This role involves designing responsive lesson plans for diverse learners and holding all students to high academic expectations.

Responsibilities

Creates academically rigorous, phenomenon-based, standards-based, culturally relevant lesson plans that foster critical thinking and problem-solving.
Utilizes student-centered instructional strategies to engage students and differentiate teaching based on diverse needs.
Implements units using common network curriculum resources, maps, frameworks, and pacing documents.
Integrates literacy skills across the curriculum area, including explicit vocabulary development.
Coplans and co-teaches with Special Education and English as a New Language teachers.
Analyzes data from assessments to refine instructional practices and impact student achievement.
Maintains strong classroom management and implements school-wide policies.
Establishes a classroom culture of caring, respect, and rapport.
Grades student work and provides actionable feedback.
Seeks to actively know students’ strengths and challenge areas and communicates these effectively with families.
Participates in professional development, professional learning communities, and school-wide functions.
Shares best practices with colleagues.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
New York State Teaching Certification in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, Physics, or Childhood Education.
Prior satisfactory teaching experience, especially in an urban school, is preferred.
Dual certification in ESOL or Students with Disabilities is a plus.
NYS Department of Education fingerprint clearance and criminal background checks.
