About the Role

As a General Manager (GM) with America’s Thrift, you will inspire your leadership team and team members to live out the company mission and values while upholding the company culture. You will partner with your District Manager and Store Leadership Team to meet financial goals, generate revenue and donations to support mission operations and community programs. You will empower your team while creating an environment for personal and professional growth. The GM must accomplish profitability through managing operations such as budgeting, financial reporting, profit and loss, identification of high-quality donated items, loss prevention, product quality control, product pricing, and building community rapport with an emphasis on customer relations. Ultimately, you build your team by hiring, training, and developing team members. Supporting the mission is a complex job, but you will get a sense of fulfillment like no other. Responsibilities

  • Lead Assistant Store Managers (ASMs) to manage their retail supervisors, processing supervisor, and dock supervisor as they oversee their respective team members.
  • Interview and hire candidates for employment with America’s Thrift and help identify and recommend employees with proven performance for advancement.
  • Lead by example to create a culture based on trust, employee development, and ongoing engagement.
  • Continuously focus on employee development, bench building, and succession planning to support the ongoing growth of America’s Thrift.
  • Monitor and train employees within the designated period regarding their job duties and all aspects of their employment with America’s Thrift.
  • Coach, counsel, and lead ASMs, supervisors, and team members regarding job performance and, when necessary, issue disciplinary actions such as written or oral discipline, or other remedial measures.
  • Partner with Assets Protection (AP) team and/or People and Culture Business Partner (PCBP) to investigate incidents involving company property, equipment, and/or personnel, and take appropriate action.
  • Regularly use company reports to create and maintain sales floor layouts to maximize sales.
  • Exercise independent judgment in assigning daily job duties to ASMs, supervisors, and team members to achieve daily operational tasks.
  • Coordinate and ensure accuracy of deposits and change orders.
  • Notify management immediately of any cash, register, and/or operating issues.
  • Partner with District Manager (DM) and PCBP to report any harassment or EEOC issues at the store.
  • Conduct onboarding and orientation and ensure that all documents are valid, complete, and accurate.
  • Oversee store operations, resources, and budgets for the location and ensure all goals are met or exceeded.
  • Create an atmosphere of ongoing exceptional customer service to internal (team members, peers, other departments) and external customers (donors, customers, charity partners).
  • Manage inventory levels of all merchandise categories and oversee all production levels and quality of merchandise to the sales floor to optimize revenue generation.
  • Monitor and ensure a smooth and effective flow of donations adhering to all published standards, safety, security, and state laws.
  • Maintain presentation and merchandising standards on the sales floor.
  • Maintain a safe environment for customers and employees, monitor safety and security procedures, and ensure safety procedures are enforced on an ongoing basis.
  • Comply with and enforce company policies, standards, and values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of management experience in a retail, production, logistics, or processing environment, or 2 years of successful, proven, thrift management.
  • Basic math and computer skills (ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets, understand computerized time and attendance, understand POS systems, etc.).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Focus on maintaining and improving Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
  • Demonstrated capacity to embrace change and ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated decision-making abilities.
  • Experience with hiring and developing staff.
  • Proven ability to inspire, coach, train, and develop store team members to consistently provide exceptional customer service and drive for results.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication as well as active listening skills.
  • Tactful interaction with peers, subordinates, vendors, and customers preferred.
  • Able to conduct business with a high sense of urgency.
  • Ability to work with all levels of employees to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to assign and delegate tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Successful completion of background check, motor vehicle check, and drug screen.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8–10 hours per shift, on tile and concrete surfaces.
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach at or above shoulder level, balance, and climb ladders up to 14 feet in height.
  • Ability to move throughout all areas of the store, production floor, warehouse, donation processing areas, loading docks, and outdoor workspaces.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers for handling, grasping, feeling, and operating equipment and technology.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in person, by telephone, and through electronic communication methods, including the ability to hear and speak clearly.
  • Ability to visually inspect merchandise, equipment, facilities, and work areas to ensure quality, safety, and operational standards are maintained.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and respond quickly to operational, customer service, and safety-related situations.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers, tablets, telephones, and printers.
  • Ability to safely operate company vehicles and material-handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks, when certified and authorized.
  • Ability to travel between store locations, training events, and company meetings as required.
  • Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, including retail, warehouse, and donation processing areas, with exposure to varying temperatures, weather conditions, noise levels, dust, and odors.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays, as business needs require.
