About the Role

The Assistant Superintendent supports the General Superintendent or Superintendent in coordinating daily on-site construction activities, ensuring the project runs safely, efficiently, and in accordance with plans and specifications. This role supports managing scheduling, manpower, materials, and subcontractors while maintaining site documentation and assisting in resolving on-site issues to keep the project on track.

Responsibilities

Assist the General Superintendent or Superintendent in managing on-site work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
Monitor work performance to ensure project rules and procedures are followed.
Advise the General Superintendent or Superintendent of potential problems, work interferences, and schedule difficulties, and help resolve them.
Support planning and implementation of schedules, manpower levels, material quantities, inspections, and equipment needs.
Ensure proper equipment and trades are available as required.
Maintain and analyze up-to-date cost reports and recommend changes to keep the project within budget.
Supervise employees and subcontractors to achieve project deliverables.
Apply and enforce the Project Specific Safety Program and ensure compliance with HS&E standards, OH&S Acts, regulations, and codes.
Oversee accurate project reporting, including site progress, events, and inspections.
Meet with consultants, trades, and other stakeholders professionally, communicating concerns and representing the company’s best interests.

Requirements

Post-secondary education in Construction Management or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.
Minimum 5+ years of civil construction experience as a Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, general foreman, or similar role.
Proficient knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, scheduling, cost control, quality control, and engineering drawings.
Experience in civil works (Concrete pours, falsework, formwork, waterproofing, rebar, etc.), concrete works, and SOE is an asset.
Ability to quickly identify problem situations, evaluate alternative causes, produce workable solutions, and lead a large team to successful completion.
Time management skills and ability to prioritize.
Leadership skills and experience supervising trades, contractors, and other personnel.
Working knowledge of scheduling, project management, and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
