About the Role

The Dietary Aide reports to the Food Service Manager/ Food Service Supervisor and is expected to demonstrate commitment to resident safety by preparing meals directed by the cook for individual residents and by providing high-quality care in accordance with the organization's vision and mission.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers meals in a pleasant, courteous manner
  • Assists the cook in preparing and plating of food as requested
  • Respects the Residents' likes and dislikes and adheres to their special dietary requirements
  • Follows the diet/texture as prescribed by Registered Dietitian/MD
  • Ensures that meals are an experience rather than a task
  • Maintains serveries, tables, food storage area, fridges, and freezers
  • Cleans and resets tables and removes dirty dishware
  • Ensures dishwasher is loaded, operated, and emptied
  • Collaborates with all associates in Food Services and other departments
  • Supports First In First Out processes
  • Follows cleaning procedures
  • Ensures a safe working environment
  • Participates in education as required
  • Performs any and all other tasks as assigned

Requirements

  • Successfully completed or enrolled in a Food Service Work program at a College of applied arts and technology or a Food Services Worker program provided by a private career college
  • Successfully completed an apprenticeship program in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook
  • Entered into a registered training agreement in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook
  • Possesses appropriate skills, knowledge and experience in institutional, health care, restaurant or hospitality food service to perform the duties required of the position
  • Holds Food Handler Certification given by Public Health or a certified agency
  • Knowledgeable about food handling and storage
  • Ability to prepare modified food textures
  • Ability to understand and follow production requirements
  • Ability to serve food attractively and correctly by understanding orders and diet spreadsheets
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned
  • Possesses organizational and time-management skills
  • Possesses individual and teamwork skills
  • Ability to make the most of the time you have to provide positive social interactions
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
  • Must meet current legislation
  • Clear vulnerable sector screening (within last 6 months)
  • Recent TB test results (within last 6 months) or Chest X-Ray (within last 1 year)
  • Two supervisory references required
