About the Role

Line Haul Drivers operate tractor-trailer combinations over long distances, playing a key role in delivering freight with precision and reliability. Drivers typically work a 5-day workweek and are home most nights, offering a strong work-life balance. This position includes a Tuition Reimbursement Program for recent trucking school graduates. Responsibilities

Operate vehicle safely within DOT regulations.
Meet or exceed medical standards of the U.S. Dept. of Transportation and pass drug and alcohol tests.
Perform pre-trip inspections of vehicles.
Ensure products loaded onto trailer are stable and will not shift during transit and delivery.
Adjust load securement and load distribution on the truck as needed.
Operate tablets/phones to record delivery information and navigation.
Unsecure freight for delivery and unload freight at drop-off location with a hand truck.
Be available for around-the-clock shifts to accommodate freight movements and be away from home for extended periods.

Requirements

Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Must have 12 months previous tractor trailer driving experience and/or be a graduate of a State Certified and Licensed truck driving school, acceptable to Old Dominion and/or have satisfactorily completed the Old Dominion truck driver training program.
Must have the ability to read, write speak English, and perform simple mathematical calculations with mental ability to handle receipts, read maps, road signs, maintain logs, etc.
Must have the ability to properly operate hand held mini-computer when required.
Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection and maintenance.
Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple trailers, tanker, and hazardous material endorsements.
Must have working knowledge of vehicle safety and control systems.
Must be available for around-the-clock trips and be able to be away from home for extended periods of time.
Must meet or exceed the medical standards of the US Department of Transportation.
Must satisfactorily pass a drug test.
Must satisfactorily pass an alcohol test (if applicable).
Must satisfactorily pass the orientation/training program instructions by an Old Dominion qualified driver trainer.
Must be able to sit and remain alert while driving for an aggregate period of up to 11 hours.
Must be able to stand and walk on various surfaces, sometimes slippery and wet.
Must be able to perform occasional squatting, crouching, and kneeling to handle freight and conduct inspections.
Must be able to enter and exit the vehicle's cab frequently, with assistance from steps and hand holds.
Must be able to perform frequent pushing and pulling of freight up to 500 pounds.
Must be able to perform occasional pushing and pulling of freight over 300 pounds with or without mechanical aid.
Must be able to frequently carry freight weighing 1 to 100 pounds.
Must be able to load and unload full trailers of freight weighing up to 50,000 pounds.
Must be able to frequently reach for freight at waist level and occasionally reach above shoulder height or below waist level.
Must be able to occasionally reach for controls to operate the truck.
Must be able to install and remove tire chains when required.
Must be able to use hands for various tasks including operating controls, securing freight, and using equipment.
Must be able to grip with hands to operate truck controls and secure items.
Must be able to pinch fingers for tasks like shrink wrapping and securing items.
Must be able to hook/unhook commercial vehicle combinations, operate landing gear, release levers, lock/release pintle-hooks, attach/release safety chains, open/close cargo doors, fuel vehicles, and check fluid levels.
Must be able to use cognitive skills for attention, memory, logic, reasoning, and processing.
Attendance is a requirement.
