About the Role

As a Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for establishing and continuously developing our Compliance Management System and related processes. You will ensure that our organization and global fellowship program operate legally, transparently, and in accordance with non-profit requirements. You will establish suitable structures, standards, and control mechanisms for this purpose. You will report directly to management to ensure necessary independence and objectivity in audit processes.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and monitor compliant, documented use of funds according to Abgabenordnung (AO).
  • Develop and maintain a data protection guideline (GDPR), especially for program participant data.
  • Conduct compliance checks with partner organizations.
  • Perform regular risk analyses with a prioritized roadmap for control measures.
  • Control the procurement process.
  • Monitor KYC processes and sanctions list screenings.
  • Conduct risk-based reviews of global payment structures with the finance department.
  • Develop guidelines and training formats.
  • Maintain the whistleblower system and case management.
  • Prepare an annual compliance report.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in compliance, auditing, business law, auditing, or finance and contract management.
  • Practical experience in establishing or further developing a Compliance Management System, in risk analyses, training, policy work, and stakeholder management, including with senior stakeholders and management.
  • Analytical sharpness in dealing with complex contractual frameworks and financial flows.
  • Diplomatic yet assertive communication skills with executives and external partners, and high integrity.
  • Pragmatic, hands-on work approach.
