About the Role
The Cellular Biologist II, Global Stem Cell Array, is responsible for project planning, experimental design, method development, laboratory procedure execution, data analysis, and documentation for human/mammalian cell culture. This role involves implementing cell biology tasks, managing resources for cell culture and related technologies, maintaining inventory, and troubleshooting protocols.
Responsibilities
- Performs project planning, experimental design, method development, and execution of laboratory procedures.
- Adapts protocols, collects and analyzes data, and contributes to reports and written materials for human/mammalian cell culture.
- Implements and performs cell biology related tasks and procedures.
- Plans and monitors resources for cell culture, spatial transcriptomics, and hyperplexed imaging technologies.
- Maintains inventory control and coordinates space, equipment, and facilities.
- Monitors expenditures and documents results.
- Implements protocols from the literature and identifies/troubleshoots problems in testing protocols.
- Modifies, refines, or adapts techniques and procedures, and adjusts quality control measures.
- Leads exchange of research information through demonstration and instruction.
- Performs and independently monitors automated and manual cell culture activities.
- Adapts protocols and develops new workflows with periodic support.
- Collaborates to perform protocols for fibroblast expansion, reprogramming, and iPSC expansion.
- Stores and withdraws specimens from liquid nitrogen and freezers.
- Prepares media and reagents required for daily work.
- Works closely with the laboratory operations team to ensure reagent/consumable inventory is stocked.
- Plans and monitors resources needed to operate the Global Stem Cell Array.
- Coordinates space and field questions.
- Participates in monitoring and tracking of resources/expenditures across projects.
- Works closely with departmental leadership and a multidisciplinary team.
- Provides documentation and feedback, including SOP creation/modification and filing file tickets.
- Collaborates with cross-functional partners to ensure smooth laboratory operations in a production environment.
- Collaborates with engineers and other staff when resolving complex issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in a directly related specialty of biology, such as biotechnology, forensic science, or biology.
- Two years of experience in a professional laboratory scientific role performing both automated and manual cell culture operations for induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines in compliance with Laboratory Information Management Systems.
- Experience with Automated iPSC Derivation and Cell Culture Operations including production and handling of biological materials to support automated induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) reprogramming, expansion, maintenance and assay execution, including robotic media exchange, passaging, thawing, and cryopreservation.
- Experience processing whole blood, skin, saliva, and fibroblast samples; isolation of PBMCs using manual and automated array systems; preparation of biological inputs for downstream reprogramming and discovery workflows within Laboratory Information Management Systems platforms.
- Experience executing fibroblast reprogramming protocols, initiation of stem cell discovery pipelines, and transition of primary cell types into pluripotent states under controlled manual and automated conditions.
- Experience with implementation, development, and continuous improvement of novel automated assays and workflows; analysis and assessment of robotic system performance; identification and resolution of automation related process issues affecting biological sample production.
- Experience maintaining organized, accurate records; independent troubleshooting with concise error reporting to scientific teams; exclusive use of the Laboratory Information Management Systems tracking system for sample and process traceability.
