About the Role
Lead Legal Excellence at Sydney Metro, providing expert legal advice and solutions across construction, major projects, PPPs, procurement, operations, and claims management. This role involves partnering with senior executives and leading a team to ensure high-quality legal services and robust governance within a complex, regulated environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop one of Sydney Metro’s legal projects branches.
- Provide expert legal advice and deliver legal solutions across various legal services.
- Engage and partner with the Chief Legal Counsel and other Senior Executives.
- Lead complex negotiations and provide legal advice on complex problems and risks.
- Lead and guide a team, ensuring high-quality legal advice, robust governance, and risk frameworks.
- Apply project management principles.
- Optimize the mix of internal and external legal service delivery.
- Ensure staff potential is maximized and capacities are fully utilized.
- Ensure corporate processes and systems are fully implemented.
- Identify and raise systematic and strategic risks and legal issues.
- Proactively work with senior managers to facilitate solutions.
Requirements
- Hold a NSW practising certificate.
- Demonstrated significant legal experience.
- Hold Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
- Strong stakeholder management skills.
- Experience in leading a function within a high reliability / high risk working environment.
- Experience in a large and complex industrial and/or public sector organisation.
- Ability to drive change and motivate team members.
- Ability to work in a matrix-style reporting environment.
- Good understanding of customer orientation and operational demands of service delivery.
- Knowledge and expertise in at least two of the following: Administrative or regulatory law, Commercial law, Construction law (front end, back end and/or PPP), Liability litigation or inquiries, Major procurement of works, goods or services.
