About the Role
Toomey Technologies is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to support a federal customer in Washington, DC. The role involves designing, deploying, maintaining, and improving mission-critical enterprise systems within a secure environment, requiring strong technical problem-solving and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Provide systems engineering support for enterprise IT systems, including requirements analysis, architecture support, implementation, integration, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
- Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate corrective actions to maintain availability, reliability, and security.
- Perform domain administrative tasks associated with Active Directory, Domain Controllers, Domain Names Services (DNS), Group Policy Objects (GPO’s), and Microsoft SQL Databases.
- Manage ESXi Hosts, Linux servers, Windows Servers & Virtual Machines Administration.
- Responsible for backup, recovery functions, and overall system functionality, programming, troubleshooting, repair, database rebuilds, and maintenance of all ACAM and VMS servers.
- Analyze system operations and test results to ensure proper system operation and determine maintenance needs.
- Perform hardware and software system patches, upgrades, service packs, and hot fixes.
- Ensure system malfunctions are identified and corrected.
- Advise the Project Manager of all malfunctions and corrective actions taken.
- Initiate authorized tests of hyper-converged servers supporting video management and security systems, including updating and installing peripheral licensing and software upgrades for VMS applications.
- Respond to trouble tickets from the Service Desk automated ticketing system.
- Advise the Project Manager of abnormalities and shortcomings of existing systems that may affect future designs or identify better methodologies.
- Develop and implement a robust preventative maintenance program.
- Maintain technical integrity of work performed and deliverables within the Systems Engineering area.
- Communicate with other program personnel and government overseers.
Requirements
- Active Public Trust clearance required.
- Experience supporting federal government customers, regulated environments, or mission-critical systems.
- Six years of experience with Windows Server and/or Linux environments, virtualization platforms, enterprise monitoring, backup/recovery, patching, and configuration management.
- Six (6) years of experience in systems engineering, systems administration, infrastructure engineering, or related enterprise IT experience.
- Thorough knowledge of System Engineering – Design Principles.
- Knowledge of and experience with Server automation and monitoring tools.
- Experience with ACAM and VMS servers.
- Experienced with network technology/topology.
- Capable of troubleshooting network connectivity issues such as network interface (NIC), cabling, TCP/IP configuration issues and basic messaging system administration (e-mail).
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues.
